River came up behind her, his hand sliding to the small of her back. “Full house today,” he murmured.

I ended the call and strolled out to the balcony with my peace lily plant in tow. The afternoon sun was like a cozy blanket, all warm and lazy. Down below, a girl in a white dress was on her tiptoes, reaching for a balloon tangled in a tree. A boy dashed up, gave her a playful hair tousle, and with a quick jump, snagged the balloon for her. She grabbed it and planted a kiss on his cheek, leaving him blushing like a tomato. I watched them and could not help but crack a smile. Life was good.

In an effort to fill the rest of my time with purpose, I start writing in a journal. Well, it’s actually a school notebook that’s only been half-used and has now been converted into a journal. This helps me organize my thoughts. This is where I write how frustrating it is to just sit around and wait. It’s also where I write the love story I wish I could have with Alex, as I daydream about what life would be like if he could renounce his pack and escape with me.
