“Stop talking in riddles!” The woman reached up and gently pressed two fingers to my forehead before I could think. I gasped. A flood of images slammed into my mind. A towering man in furs—an Alpha—stood in a circle of robed figures, his eyes wild. Blood. A basin full of it. A child screaming. A sigil, burned into flesh, pulsing like a heartbeat. A betrayal. A blade. The mark again. Branded. Glowing. Pain bloomed behind Naomi’s eyes. She dropped to her knees. “It hurts… it hurts… make it stop…”

He mutters, eyes darting around. “Do what here?” I take another step back, this time in the direction of the open street, but he blocks my path, and for a second, I swear his eyes flash a dangerous red. It's just a trick of the light. It has to be. “Eat.” He says casually and in the blink of an eye, he's in front of me, nose buried in my neck as he sniffs. I don't hesitate to knee him in the groin, but he's back where he was standing before my knee reaches him.

At that moment, Gideon realized that in the darkness, streams of tentacles were rushing toward him, twisting ominously as if they intended to ensnare him. "What's this?" he exclaimed. The netherflame roared, but it couldn't ignite the black tentacles, much to Gideon's surprise. "It's Shadow Binding," Aryella explained coolly. "Those aren't physical objects, so your heavenly flame can't burn them." In an instant, shadowy tentacles ensnared Gideon, wrapping around his limbs and torso like a python constricting its prey. His bones cracked under the pressure. "Shadow tentacles, huh? Then, let's see how you fare without any shadows to exploit," Gideon declared with a fierce shout.

Prepare me for what? The stranger giggled, the sound irritating in my ears. "For the end." Before I could understand this, the shadows burst. Black tentacles emerged from the figure's body, creeping through the air toward us. "Move!" Eric yanked me to the side while yelling at me. We dove out of the path just before the tendrils smashed into the ground where we were standing, causing deep fractures in the stone floor. Eric wouldn't let go of my hand as we rushed blindly into the darkness, the sound of those tendrils flying through the air close behind us.

The room seemed to close in around her, the shadows elongating and shifting as if they were alive. She felt utmost satisfaction watching Visha beheaded, and she even craved more blood and chaos. The violet-grey blur of the non-existence shroud didn't just cover the peak; it flowed down the tentacles and into the water, encasing the massive, bioluminescent beast in a bubble of stolen time. ​The Tenth Suture didn't dive. It ascended.

Someone in the back (a girl with galaxy eyes and tentacles for hair) raises a hand. Tentacle Girl: “Does the thunder pay child support?” Kayo points at her like she just won a prize. Kayo: “Extra credit. Now watch this.” She snaps her fingers. A perfect replica of the Sky King’s broken crown appears in the center of the room, spinning slowly. Kayo: “Yesterday you six turned a throne into confetti. Today we’re going to calculate exactly how illegal that was in thirteen different planes of existence.” Rowan finally looks up, pushes his cracked glasses up his nose.

Ila said as she lifted her hands in the air and Sharlynn appeared. She was kneeling on the ground with her eyes closed, her head was bowed low and attached to her head were strange branches that looked like tentacles that came out of the ground.
