Isabella lay awake long after the house had fallen silent. The only sound was the soft rhythm of rain tapping against the window, a steady beat that matched the relentless pulse in her chest. Darkness wrapped around her like a suffocating cloak, heavier than any noise she could hear. Her mind refused to rest. Every thought seemed to collide with another — a storm of fear, doubt, and something stubbornly fierce that refused to be silenced. She was trapped. Trapped between worlds she didn’t belong to — the cold, dangerous realm of the Moretti family, and the fading shadows of the life she once knew. Neither felt like home anymore.

I nod, her words settling into my bones like a vow. As the sun begins to set, painting the crystal wastes in shades of crimson and gold, Thessia calls Kael and me to her tent. We enter to find her sitting cross-legged on a pile of cushions, a shallow bowl of water in front of her. The water glows faintly silver—dreamwater, I realize. For scrying or prophecy. "Sit," she commands, and we obey. She studies us both for a long moment, her sharp eyes missing nothing. "The Bloodmoon will be fully risen in two hours. Kael, are you prepared?"

“But I won’t run from it.” The flames in her blood pulsed again. And somewhere above them, behind the thick clouds... The sky began to tint red. . . . Eira collapsed again, eyes wide, chest rattling. Her hand clawed toward the sky. She whispered, voice rasping over cracked lips: “The blood moon comes.” And this time, no one doubted her. Not even Kael. Not even Aria. Because above the trees, the clouds finally broke. And the first vein of crimson spilled across the sky

And yet—Lucien dragged me across the room, lowering me onto the black leather couch. My chest heaved, every breath sawing out of me like blades. My vision blurred and sharpened again, pupils expanding and contracting with the violent rhythm of my pulse. “Lucien,” I hissed, every syllable guttural. “Don’t—” “Save your strength,” he cut in, kneeling beside me. His sharp features were drawn tight, his voice low and edged with urgency. His eyes—those steady, dark eyes—were locked on mine, refusing to flinch. “The Blood Moon isn’t supposed to appear for another four months. Not until the end of winter.”

The moon hung heavy and crimson in the night sky, casting a blood-red glow over the sprawling grounds of the Blood Moon Packhouse. Wolves moved like shadows across the snow, laughter and music spilling from the great hall where the celebration roared. The rare Blood Full Moon was a night of power—a night when bonds were strengthened, instincts sharpened, and dominance reaffirmed.

“Because if he really does drain the moon…I have no idea what that could do to the planet. He laughed weakly. Then the ground shook. We both looked up. The High Elder stood on the hill. He raised both hands. The Blood Moon appeared again. Only this time, it was enormous. The sky turned red. Every wolf stopped. The High Elder shouted: "The Blood Moon has awakened!" The earth split. Darkness poured from the cracks. The same darkness we had seen before. But this time... It spread across the entire battlefield. Wolves screamed. Warriors fell. I grabbed Alexander's hand.

Flora had a faint pulse so I carried up to one of the spare bedrooms where Maya could attend to her. “What the hell happened to her?” Maya shrieked when she saw the bruised and battered Elora in my arms. “I don't know what's got into him, he almost killed her. Maya we have to get her away from him. He's going to send this whole pack down if he kills her.” It scared me to think that my own father could kill a she-wolf. He had walked off like it were no big deal. The walls and floors were splattered with blood. It was like a blood bath. I had ordered some of the omega girls to clear it up.
