Silas grabbed Bailey's arm and started dragging her away from the group of Fae Princes. Bailey couldn't hide a smile. It felt nice to be flirted with so extravagantly. It made her miss her home in Hawaii, where men fell all over themselves for a chance to grace her bed. She had developed a reputation at her university. The girl who put out and didn't try to trap a guy in a relationship. She had become a conquest for the local university men, and she didn't mind it. But it left a wake of jealous exes, and that had made her a little more discerning when it came to feeding her magick.

I had just sold the last piece of my soul for grain. Then a voice brushed against my mind, soft as silk, urgent as fire. Talim. Reka. Her mind-link trembled with need and something close to desperation. I can’t wait anymore. Please. The old laundry room beneath the kitchens. I’m burning. Hurry. Tessa’s POV (as Elena) I wiped my face with my hands as I sat upright on the bed. When would all this end? I was just a young girl fighting for her life, and now this? I had gone to the hospital three times, but nothing—no hint about how we were supposed to switch back. And now, I had to wait for some spirit… till heaven knows when? Zane’s call dragged me out of my thoughts. “Hey, Zane.”

Beep… beep… beep… Light stabbed into my eyes. The sterile sting of antiseptic filled my nose. Hospital. Alive. Barely. The last thing I remembered was Elizabeth’s scream as Liza’s dragon jaws closed around her skull. A well-deserved death for a woman who tried to murder a child. My throat scraped like sandpaper when I tried to speak. A cough barely escaped when Liza’s face suddenly hovered over me—wild-eyed and furious. She slapped my chest. Hard. “Dominic Baine, if you ever scare me like that again, I swear to the goddess I’ll kill you myself. Then resurrect you. Just to kill you again. Do you hear me?!”

“I said no. I’m done with you shutting me out, okay? I don’t know what you’ve been through, but I can’t help if I don’t know—” “I don’t need your help.” “You do, you need my help, maybe even more than you know.” “Tessa. What are you doing?” “What does it look like I’m doing? I want to know more about you. I want to know why you have a book filled with names. I want to know who your parents are. I want to know you, Wraith.” “Curiosity killed the cat, Tessa. This… ‘thing’, it’s not going to work.” He said through his teeth.
