The earth was disturbed, footprints, broken twigs, subtle signs of recent passage.
“We need to move carefully,” Damascus said, “No mistakes.”
Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed from the trees ahead. Everyone froze.
From the shadows, a figure emerged, a young wolf scout, eyes wide with surprise before recognition flickered.
“Who’s there?” the scout demanded.
Damascus stepped forward, calm but commanding, “We didn't come to fight. We seek only to understand the Alpha wants.”
The scout hesitated, then nodded slowly, “You’re braver than most.”
