The phone call ended, and Damian's fist clenched, suspecting that his mother was framed and his father never gave her a chance to explain herself. "No. I cannot kill any woman I love. Never!" "You're right to be cautious. But I can prove I'm Damian's mother. I know things about him that only his mother would know." She told me about a scar on Damian's shoulder from falling off his bike at nine. About his childhood fear of thunderstorms. About how he used to hide in his closet during storms until he was twelve years old. Things I'd never heard but they felt true. They sounded like Damian. "Does Damian know you're alive?" I asked again. "Not yet." "You need to tell him." "I will. But first I wanted to meet you. I really needed to understand the situation and ask for your help in proving Victoria is lying."
