“Gee, thanks, Kline. I’m glad I’m not dead, too.”
“Do you know what’s going to happen?”
“Not since the moment I smelled him in that shitty diner I should’ve burned down years ago,” I say.
I didn’t mean for it to sound funny, but I see the corner of his mouth twitch anyway.
“Alphas don’t plateau, Greer. They escalate.”
My mouth goes dry. I tear my eyes away and stare down the coastline, trying to slow my breathing.
