“It’s about a woman who comes into an inheritance she doesn’t know what to do with. It’s not sad the way it sounds. I read it in February.” She takes it. Their hands are both on it for one moment, his large tanned copper haired hand covers hers for a moment before she draws hers back. The book is slightly worn, the way a book is when it has been used by many people. “Thank you,” she says. Footsteps, purposeful: Leo appears at the end of the aisle, holding a book with the triumphant expression of someone who has confirmed a theory. He examines Gage and his mother’s concentration on each other. He sense something building between them. “Mom. Atlantic Drift Patterns in Storm Systems. Look at th

It opens when it is ready and the opening is the work, not an announcement of the work. Neva arrives first because she has been arriving first at the cartographer's building since the documentation began. She brings the final version of the cross-referenced notation in a new archival folder — heavier paper, properly bound, the kind that lasts — and she places it on the reference table in the main room with the specific care of someone setting something down in its permanent place for the first time. She looks at where it sits. She adjusts it by one centimetre. She looks at it again.

She pulled it out, sneezed once as dust motes tickled her nostrils, and lowered the book on the coffee table. The title was written in cursive gold letters, 'The Art Of The Body'. Clearly out of curiosity, she opened to the middle of the book, and her eyes nearly popped out in pure mortification. The book contained explicit diagrams of men and women in different, erotic, sexual poses.

We went up to the second floor. The second floor of GALA was my favorite part: a long hallway with dark wooden floors, tall windows, restored vintage pendant lights, and walls full of framed sketches from weddings that never made it into magazines because my clients were rich, famous, and paranoid. At the end of the hallway was Conference Room A. It’s a large oval walnut table, cream chairs comfortable enough to make people lower their guard, a large screen hidden behind wood panels, and one wall covered in interchangeable mood boards. CLASSIC ITALIAN GARDEN.

He looked like a man ready to work. “Take anything relevant,” he ordered the guards softly. “Take ten books each. Find anything on the goddess lines, on remarkable gifts, and on old healer rites. Start now.” We dispersed quickly, hands skimming spines and pulling out volumes. My fingers found a thin book with cracked leather. Its title was faded, written in English from an old time. I opened it and scanned. Pages moved. It was slower work than I thought; some books were full of ritual and nothing more.

But as I flipped through the pages, something caught my eye ,a list of names and tasks that had been assigned for the gala. My name was there and below that it was written floral arrangements should be of lilies and roses, ensuring the décor matches the client’s specifications, white creamy colour napkins and there were other things. The entire list was typed and was written with a complete description. I turned to the next page and saw a handwritten list . There were written Ice sculptures, gold silk runners, violinists, thank-you cards on it. This was the list that Rachel had given me after the meeting. Sneaky bitch.

Must be his grandfather. She wandered around the huge place, taking in the countless titles and genres that were collected and stacked neatly. The books are arranged by genres. A whole shelf for a specific genre, and in each shelf, they were arranged by the author’s name in order of the alphabets. The thing that Estelle found interesting is that the first floor is all by human authors. The second floor has books that were all written by supernatural writers. There were three times more books on the second floor than the first.

Gareth asked. His question was answered when the whole building started to vibrate. The books and the shelf all floated in the air. Even the shreds of the chandelier, the dust and the scrolls and anything belonging to the library. It all happened in a flash of seconds. The whole place stopped vibrating and Bola’s stomach jutted with more exciting agitation. “The bud…it arranged the place.” Gareth laughed. The other’s laughed with him too, as they behold a beauty that had been formed from the chaos.

one of the young scholar said. "Keep moving left," Gaius told them. He was searching the bottom shelf himself, his torch held close to the wood. A few more minutes went by. "Gaius," one of the young scholar said. His voice changed. It was very quiet. He was pointing at a thick book resting on a small stone pedestal at the very end of the shelf. The book was bound in dark red leather. It had a heavy iron clasp keeping it closed. Gaius walked over quickly. He knelt on the floor. He unlatched the rusted iron clasp and pulled the heavy cover open.

“What are you looking for, my love?” “The records concerning the Ralta.” Seraphine pulled out a narrow book covered in dust. “This is it,” she said as she walked to the huge table in the middle of the library and took a seat. Maelva followed behind and sat beside her. The cover of the book carried an ancient symbol of a crescent moon surrounded by silver veins. Seraphine slowly opened the book and turned the first page. The writing was faded but still readable. She translated the ancient words aloud.
