I was certain I would find mine before him, though, because it looked like I was on the right track to finding it. There was a problem with this particular library, though. This library didn't have its books arranged in the proper order. The books were arranged haphazardly, with no care for order or easy location. Most libraries either had their books arranged in alphabetical order or according to author's names or according to the genres but this particular one didn't have any of that. Everything was joined together with everything and it made finding a book so difficult. I wonder why the Alpha had it like that, though.

She reorganized her bookshelf twice. Not by color this time — she'd already done color, that was a September system, and she was in November now, and November required something different. She tried alphabetical by author, which was sensible and correct, and lasted approximately twenty minutes before she started moving things around by feeling, which was less sensible and more honest, and ended with Didion next to Baldwin next to a dog-eared Marilynne Robinson she'd read four times and a slim collection of poetry she'd bought at Margins and hadn't opened yet.

I let out a long breath I didn’t know I was holding, and walked toward the library. The room was huge, with tall shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, filled with thousands of books. There were books about history, science, art, and politics, but most of all, there were books and files about business, finance, and power. They were arranged perfectly, organized in ways that made sense only to someone who knew how the world worked.

Shelves are divided in two parts; a few on the left and the others on the right, with a walkway in the middle to access both sides. I move further inside, nearing the first shelf on my right. One look at the book arrangement and a smile appears on my lips. The books are arranged in an alphabetical order. I further confirm this by moving to the shelf on the left, the books on there start with the letter C on the top and D at the bottom. Walking to the back of the room, I near the open window, where a gasp flies out my lips. There’s splattered blood on the wall, dried and forgotten. When was the last time anyone walked in here?

You just had to be thrown off your feet. The books in my store were arranged Alpha-numerically, each genre perfectly spotlighted to complement the eye of the inquisitive reader who wants to pick up a book that is different from their usual. For a book hoarder, my store could be seen as a mine filled with undiscovered wealth and mysteries.
