A notification chimed. Calliope startled, then leaned forward, clicking open the incoming video call. The familiar face appeared on screen—Atlas. His broad shoulders filled the camera’s view, suit sharp as ever, jaw tight. His eyes, though, betrayed him. They looked tired, strained, like he hadn’t slept well in days.
“Calliope,” he said. Her name came out clipped, controlled.
“Atlas,” she returned, equally steady, though her pulse had quickened.
