The Backyard Bird Chronicles Reviews Novels & Stories

Ezra just shook his head, thinking, so much for my quiet life. While Josh led them to the lake's edge, Colton found himself a thick birch to lean back against and settled down to read. The sun had crept upward, the noon hour almost upon them as Ezra watched Josh give Erin a slice of bread to feed the ducks that suddenly found themselves eager for human interaction. The little girl squealed in delight as she ripped off a piece of bread and tossed it into the water. The ducks dove for it, shoving each other out of the way to get to the soggy morsel.

After I finished writing everything, I put the notebook back on the table. Then, I took out the medical report from my time in prison and set it on top of the notebook. The report clearly showed that I only had one kidney. When everything was done, it was already 9 PM. I gave the storage room one last look. I had lived here for twelve years. The pipes in the corner made a faint gurgling sound there and then, like it was the house’s heartbeat. However, that heartbeat had nothing to do with me. I was just a vestigial organ here. Even if I were cut away, no one would feel a thing.

That night, the village chief brought us all to the watchtower. None of us had our handbooks anymore, after all. As the clock chimed twelve, azure birds flew out of the forest, one after the other. Their dark, viridian tail feathers were streaked with an eerie crimson, their screeches so shrill they felt capable of making us all go deaf. Afro stood first, positioning his water bazooka, while Gerard stood beside him, raising his dual guns.

Mandy York, my girlfriend, was practically a migratory bird that always flew away during summer. Every year, during July and August, which were the hottest months of the year, she would fly off and disappear from the face of the earth. She said that it was because her company gave her a special project abroad that required absolute secrecy from her. She was also not to contact anyone during that period of time. Even when I got into a car accident last year and lay in the ICU for two months, she never called to ask about me. Plenty of times, I had comforted myself and endured the harsh summer alone. One day, I accidentally saw the social media account of a friend of mine living abro

He checked the amount and value of the recent harvest from the wasteland that was stated in the ledger. The yearly cross-house tournament was coming, and house Valentino had to offer their share of resources that would be used as part of the reward to give to the Victors. Rufus Valentino rubbed his forehead as he laid his back on the chair made from agar wood . Vampires don't really get tired, but they sure as hell aren't immune to frustration. "I should have a damn secretary for these stuffs" count Rufus muttered with exasperation in his tone.

naguguluhan kong tanong. "Pagbuksan mo 'ko!" sigaw ni amazona na halos mapalundag ako sa pagkabigla. "At ako pa ang inutusan mo, bahay ko ito tandaan mo yan amazona" nanlilisik kong saad ngunit parang hindi man lang ito nasindak. --Harris' PoV Limang minuto na kaming naka-tayo sa labas ng pinto habang pareho lang kaming nakatitig sa may pintuan.

"Glad I didn't side with Sherry. The other girl's poor, sure, but Sherry? Straight-up disgusting." Sherry clawed at the air, but a few students blocked her. Before I could react, a hand grabbed mine, yanking me free from the chaos. Riley stood there, flashing that annoyingly perfect grin of his. "Made it just in time, huh? Saw the livestream—figured you'd need backup. You okay?" I blinked. "Livestream?" Oh, right. Sherry had gone live while accusing me of stealing her wallet. Too bad for her, my receipts were a little too solid. Now, she was the one in deep water.

"That mark belongs to me." She stepped back, blade raised again. "You're lying." He took a slow step forward, his eyes glowing brighter. "I wish I were." Before she could react, the sky darkened. Dozens of crows rose from the trees at once, shrieking and circling above them. The air grew heavy, the ground trembling under her boots. Kael looked up at the sky. "The Bloodbound has awakened." Seraphina didn't understand what he meant-she only knew one thing. Her life had just changed forever.

So I don’t know how well my little plan is going to work. Ethan passes her a long look before trailing after his friend. Pearl can’t help but stare at his broad shoulders as he saunters off into the thick woods. She wishes their lives were different. If things were different, I’d explore the feelings that press into her chest every time she looks at him. Unfortunately, she won’t be around long enough in the near future to explore anything. The forest is very much alive today. Birds sing a crying song, like ravens giving way to warning. Leaves rustle in tune with every curious creature that runs through the long limbs that stretch high above.

Memories Isn’t it funny how, day by day, nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different. ~C.S. Lewis Reed was lost in her own thoughts as he drove. She wasn’t even paying attention to where they were. When she looked outside again and saw the trees whirl by, she was slightly surprised. He didn’t seem the type to live out in the wilderness. He was more a city boy or at least a townie.
