I sat up with my heart racing, my sweaty thin tank top still sticking to my skin, and the fabric so transparent that it showed every one of the curves of my braless breasts. Who would be at the door at such a late hour? I picked up my phone, no alerts, no texts from Mia or anyone. The knocks grew frantic, a slurred voice filtering through the door: "Lila? It's Jax. Please... let me in." Mia's brother. My pulse skipped. I'd harbored a secret crush on him since our teen sleepovers, stealing glances at his broad shoulders and easy grin, but he was off-limits, her family, her protector. Still, drunk and alone outside? I couldn't ignore him.

He opens the book and reads a few pages, then smiles. “I think this might be something.” He says and I smile. Gunner grunts, “We really need to find this guy.” I nod in agreement.

She was almost done with arranging the books when something caught her eye. It was a book she'd never seen before with the words "The Secret of the Miasma." boldly written on it.

Another thing, I know the story might be confusing a little at this point with all these secrets but all confusions will be cleared as this story comes to an end and it's coming to an end soon. ‘So what can we do to break the spell before it takes over Remiel? Her eyes meet mine, shining brightly in the dark space. ‘The secret room at the old Church, there is a book of forbidden magic.’ She closes her eyes as wind begins to swirl around her, lifting her body from the floor and whipping her hair around her. ‘I can sense the book's presence there.’ ‘But I’ve already found the hidden room in the school room.’ Frustration clear in my voice. ‘We didn’t find any books that come remotely close to what you are describing.’

Here, in the dim light, I saw a row of old, leather-bound books that looked like they hadn't been touched in centuries. My heart raced as I reached for the first book, feeling its weight in my hands. I flipped open the cover, my eyes widening as I read the title: "The Secrets of the Night: A Guide to the Mystical Creatures of the Dark." With a gasp, I realized that I had found exactly what I had been looking for. I spent the next few hours devouring the contents of the book, her eyes darting across the pages as she absorbed every detail. It was like a veil had been lifted from her eyes, and she was seeing the world in a whole new way.
