"Let's find out who has the damn book. That will answer everything." He dropped the crystal into a bronze bowl, placed the pink handkerchief beneath it, and lit three black candles. He opened his hands over the flame and spoke clearly: "Book of mine, lost from hand, Bound by spell and ancient brand. Who now holds you, thief or kin? Whose heart beats while your pages spin? Reveal to me, through fire and smoke, Break her lies, undo the cloak. From ink to skin, from soul to thread, Show who holds you in their bed.

I said, and his eyes widened. “What? I’ve read this book repeatedly.” His words confused me, and all I could think of was another ruse to lure me into believing he had changed. She tried to ask that sarcastically, but Jade didn't seem affected. Everyone was looking at the two of them as Jade sauntered towards Tiffany. "I find it funny and ironic." Tiffany's forehead creased after hearing Jade say that. "Do you read the bible, Tiffany?" Jade was smiling; her face was beaming with confidence that anyone could feel intimidated. "H-Huh?" Tiffany stuttered as she looked at everyone who was all gazing at her. "Why are you asking me that now?" "Thou shall not steal. Thou shall not kill." Jade chuckled. "Did you know that? Have you read that? If you did, then aren't you contradicting your actions with those words since you were the one that stole Liliana's notebook."

I can't imagine spending time with him outside the hospital; I'd be too awed to speak. "All right, ladies!" Cindy taps a spoon against her glass to get our attention. "We're a book club, so we need to at least look like we're talking about this week's read." She reaches down to take a hardback book out of her bright pink beach bag. "Elin Hilderbrand's The Rumor-so much to unpack here. Who wants to start?" When none of us say a word, Cindy heaves a loud sigh. "Okay, children. I see you're going to make me work for this one.
