The Breakdown Book Summary Novels & Stories

I'm dying. But so is he. He's fighting back with everything. More illusions crash over me. My body is jerking violently. But I hold on and push harder, finding the core of what makes him him—that cold, cruel center where all his power comes from—and I start ripping it apart piece by piece. He screams. The sound is physical and mental—echoing through both the battlefield and the connection between us. I feel the moment his mind shatters. Feel his consciousness fragment and scatter like broken glass. His body goes rigid under my hands.

Kai’s voice rose, striking a furious, depleted tone that erupted from the depths of a deeply fractured, long-suppressed patience: — "I am exhausted, Eileen... truly exhausted! I am sick of your suffocating weakness, and your constant breakdowns that drag us straight to the bottom every single time. Every time I think we’ve taken a single step forward to build a normal, stable life, you suddenly shatter and throw us right back to square zero!" Eileen recoiled into herself, feeling his lacerating words hit like direct stabs to her wounded pride. Kai continued his ruthless assault, his eyes blazing with a frustration that had accumulated over the years:

Weeks become months. The book grows. It becomes a document of everything that comes after the first book. It becomes a chronicle of healing that isn't neat or linear. It's messy. It's full of setbacks and breakthroughs. It's the real version of what happens when you decide to stay and do the work. One day I finish a chapter about the therapy work. About Dr. Voss and the specific grace of having someone guide you through your own healing. I read it to Dominic and he listens without interrupting.

he is broken because of his own mate. I felt sorry for him. He is so kind and caring, he doesn't deserve that kind of pain. I heard banging outside, then the movement of the doorknob. It's jacob! My eyes widened and as fast as lightning I returned the photo I was holding to the middle of the book page. I quickly adjusted my seat when Jacob appeared to me with a bunch of bags and a big box on his shoulder. "Y-You're already here. That was fast," I said, still a little nervous. I tried to act normal, that I didn't do anything weird here in his house but it seems that my somewhat tense appearance did not escape Jacob's eyes.

"If he doesn't wake up, then just let him sleep more, alright? He'll wake up when he's rested enough." "No, Mom, but… the doctor said Dad went to heaven and won't ever wake up again. Mom, come save him!" Leroy's voice broke into sobs, and then Timothy's voice came through the phone. "Ms. Jorian, please come back. I'm not lying; your husband has passed away—" "Enough. Niels is really regressing. He must have become mentally twisted from being homebound. Why else would he get you to help him fabricate something so ridiculous?"

"What is this? Are you trying to make me feel better or something? Stop it, Allen. I don't need that kind of positive reinforcement. The fact is, I'm broken, right?" "Ash!" Aslan rolled his eyes. "What? Never mind, don't deny it. This has been my condition for a long time, right? Besides, I'm the one with the condition, you don't have to worry about it." Allen sighed. He knew Aslan just hated his condition, but Allen did not like it every time Aslan called himself broken. In Allen's eyes, Aslan was normal. A normal human being. He was just a little different from the other Alphas, and that did not change anything. He was still Allen's little brother, and Allen loved him.

Pain got worse. “Cry all you want, Lena. Scream, roll around. Won’t change a thing. Guards are here now. You’ll go.” I knew I was nothing. Felt it daily. But why rub it in? Why laugh? Why do people love reminding the broken they’re broken? I should’ve stopped hoping. No words could fix it. Their minds were alreadymade up. I turned slow. Through the window, I saw them waiting for me outside. I started crying hard again.

“Don’t tell me. But you know I’ll give as good as I get.” “I’m counting on it.” Atticus could hardly see through the rage brimming within him, tinting his vision red. It turned Ralphin – his Beta, his best friend – into nothing more than a gleaming target. His hold on himself was slipping with every word, every taunt, and every second that he couldn’t get the sight of Lily’s crumpled face out of his head. He’d broken her. He’d felt it, the beginnings of love, the irrevocable ties of the mate bond – and he’d broken her. And, he thought, side-stepping one of Ralphin’s better kicks, he’d broken himself, too.

She walks with elegance and prudence but could speak a curse that would leave you both lost and confused, shattered and broken but most of all deeply in love. That's how I ended up here in this situation I am in now, losing everything and everyone closest to me. Leaving me alone, depending on her for love, on her to put a stop to my lust, and on her to fill me up when I’m empty to stick me back together when I'm broken. I should have known that something was wrong, that something didn't quite fit together perfectly, no matter how many times Althea would beg me to look closer and pay attention.
