He howls in rage, the sound vibrating through my skull.
He thrashes wildly, his strength nearly overpowering mine. His hand shoots out, catching my side, claws raking deep. Pain flares, hot and sharp, but I don’t let go. He grips my scruff, twisting, and suddenly I’m airborne, slammed hard into a bookshelf. The wooden shelves splinters beneath me, books tumbling down in an avalanche of paper and ink.
