The memory answers before she can stop it. Her back against the concrete pillar. The dead closing in. One hand pressed to her bleeding arm. The bag gone. Dex gone. No rescue. No miracle. Just her, laughing once because of course this was how it ended, because if she had known betrayal came with this much paperwork she would have asked for a receipt. She had still tried to get up. Even then. Especially then. “That’s a flattering way to say I died stubborn.” It was a statistically significant death. A laugh escapes her before she can catch it. Small. Ugly. Almost nothing.

I don’t know why, but something is rotten in my gut and it’s never wrong. We storm through the building, Roddy’s being the last room at the end of the long ass hallway. The door is locked and Grouch sticks his ear to it, then backs up and kicks it open. The immediate stench of death I know all too well hits my nose and I can’t believe nobody has noticed it. It’s at least fifteen doors from mine. Missile and Grouch storm in, but I can already see the lifeless body of Ryan “Roddy” Grimes on the bed. I step in the room and see a needle sticking right out of his fucking arm. His skin is already discolored, he’s been dead a couple days. And nobody even realized it. Some brotherhood we are.

"Honey, werewolves transform at night. It’s normal that you don’t remember. I’ll watch over you from now on. I won’t let anyone discover your identity." I crouched there, my mind in chaos. It appears the way these two were killed is similar to the existing murders that occurred in the clubs. The only difference now is that we have a male victim, and this time, it was outside the club. "You and Millie should probably stay away from that club from now on." "How did you know about the club?" I hadn't mentioned anything about that, so how was he aware of it? "It isn't a secret," Aiden answered calmly. "After her boyfriend, Allen, died in the line of duty, she hadn't handled the grief well. She frequents that club to drown it out. Following Nico through the double doors I find myself in an entirely different clinic from the one upstairs. “Welcome to the Angel of Death Clinic where we help you find death on your terms.” Nico smugly says the slogan like he’s brilliant. I mean he is, but I’m used to being the only smug one. However, two smug, cocky men with a sassy, brat female we might just be unstoppable.
