The Dusty Bookshelf Novels & Stories

I muttered. "Check there let me check here. We have to find something that can help" I said and started the search the several shelves that I knew that we couldn't finish but still had hope. We pushed everything out of or mind and started to look for a book sincerely. "Have you found anything?" I asked Ashley after about 30 minutes. "No! I can't even see anything that is soul related" She muttered and continued to search hoping to find it. I don't know how long we searched and just when we were about to give up, I saw a red book which lay about the stacks of books and just like others this book was also Dusty.

There’s only 2 chairs along with some utensils I could see behind him. “I’ll gather some wood. I’ll make you the best bread.” Alexander was absorbed in preparing. I let him do his thing. A small bookshelf caught my eyes. A set of books lined up with webbed dust all over. I took a book. I wanted to kill some time while waiting for Alexander. But the dust flew inside my nostrils. I sneeze big and loud that shake and drop the book on my hand. A photo suddenly appeared lying on the wooden floor.

I entered my birth date and the huge door gave way for us, we entered into the mighty and giant bookshelves, somewhere you might need a ladder that has a height of an actual skyscraper to reach. “There are billions of books in here, how the heck are we gonna know the exact one?” Daniel asked touching the books and with the tip of his fingers “Probably some old worn-out books” I replied from the other side of the library "Everything here already looks worn out” Jasper rolls his eyes “Then look for the one that is mororn out” “I think I’ve got it” Daniel screeches bringing out a large dusty book from the shelf and dropping it on the table. I walk towards the table and examine it, he was right,

I let out a cough as I step into the dusty hall where rows upon rows of books fill the floor to ceiling bookshelf walls. The books here are all covered with fine dust and when I run a finger through one of them, I think I probably scrape off a millenia of dust. Most of the books are yellowish from age, some are barely held together, threatening to crumnble at just a touch. This is such a strange place to store books. Whoever built this place must not have liked to read. I mean, why would anyone build a library underground where light is a limited resource? It is as if the person did not want anyone to come at all.

I snap. Through the strands of curls, I run my hands and stand up, frustrated more than ever. Just as I am about to give up, the tip of my tiny toe bumps the end of something on the floor. Squatting down, I peek beneath the shelf and smile. Covered in thick layers of dust is a brown leather book.

Sniffing carefully to make sure he is not being followed, he pushes the door open. Behind the door is a large room with thousands of shelves lined in straight lines. Each shelf has over hundreds of books which are thick with dust and cobwebs. A strong scent of sewage and fungi is in the air but Eduard is not bothered by it. He holds the lamp higher and walks ahead. Mice scurry off as he approaches a shelf in the farthest corner. Scanning through the dusty shelves, he finally finds a thick leather bound book. He takes it out and dusts it well.

When I asked the butler, he said there were more than a thousand books in a two-story facility. My hand shuffled the books on one shelf at the left corner of the room and only stopped with a purple light glimmered to a part that evoked my eyes. Since they placed it on the 1st tier of the 10 feet bookshelf, a ladder for someone like me was a must. I grinned when the purple leather book with a gold gilded frame on its sides landed on my hands. They decorated the center with the Daria Empire’s Griffin logo carved from amber, plus the golden clasp added to its vintage aesthetic.

We arrive in the library which I'm glad to see is still in tip top shape. I search around for books that could possibly interest me while he helps me look as well. We gather a lot of novels and place them on the table. I'm satisfied with the ones I've picked so far and decide to climb down the ladder but as I'm about to, something fascinating catches my interest. It's a big book tucked away in the innermost shelf of the library. It looks very old and is very dusty as well. The first look at it would make anyone turn away and not even want to touch it but it seems to have a different effect on me.

After finishing the book, they would share their thoughts and insights. Due to their love for buying books, the bookshelf in the living room had already insufficient storage long ago. So, they made two wooden shelves to stack all the books they had read on top of them. The wooden shelves had no cover. Furthermore, they were usually busy with work and had no time to clean and take care of the books. As a result, many of the books on top had accumulated dust.

Her long golden hair falls down her back , making me want to reach out and touch it. “I know you are awake…” she says without turning back. “Who are you?” I ask , wondering who this mysterious woman was and why she hasn’t killed us or sent us to the king. I hear her sigh , before walking up from her seated position. She slowly turns around , and at that moment I feel all the air is kicked out of my stomach and comes out as a loud gasp. “Mother?!!!”
