It's the only way to keep everyone safe." "Isolate him where?" I asked, my voice shaking. "There's a reinforced room in the basement," Merrick said. "It was built for exactly this kind of situation. We can lock him in there until we find a cure."

"Public. Familiar territory. Somewhere he has an exit route memorized." "Petrov's," Zariel said again, her pulse picking up speed. "It has to be Petrov's. There's a back exit through the kitchen that leads straight into an alley. He showed me once. He said it was his emergency hatch in case a client ever got violent over a botched fake date." The next instant, Samantha set her camera down and looked at me. "Nat, why won't you smile? You're the prettiest today!" She swept her gaze around and finally fathomed the situation.
