As it breached the radius of the child’s aura, a faint, violet spark arched from the baby's presence.
The Elder froze. His skin, once supple and olive-toned, began to turn a mottled, dead grey. The color bled from his eyes, leaving only hollow, stone-white sockets. The transformation rippled upward, his throat calcifying, his jaw locking into a silent, eternal scream. Within a heartbeat, the pride of the Council stood as a statue of cold, lifeless rock, his hand eternally reaching, eternally failing.
The other four Alphas recoiled, their faces draining of color as they stared at their fallen peer.
