I scribbled an answer to my Calculus problem. “So you know the future, who's going to die,” I said, “and you can't do a thing about it?”
“I wouldn't want to interfere.” He glanced at my homework, mildly interested. “It's all in my little black book. But don't think it's set in stone.” He traced his finger across the asymptote on my graph paper. “The future is like a tapestry- meddle with one thread, and the entire thing could unravel. This line is the future: the graph follows, and the distance between expectation and actuality becomes so infinitesimally small, it's practically nonexistent.”
