One of the girls who found Sonia ‘cool’ then asked, “What's your favorite book?” A lot of books were her favorite, but she ditched them all to say, “You probably haven't heard of it. It's called The Age of Exploration.” She felt Darrell look her way as soon as she said this, but she pretended not to have noticed. “It's a history book, actually,” she continued. The teens' faces scrunched up in distaste. “History?” one of them groaned. “Ugh, boring.” “Yeah, who wants to read about a bunch of old dead guys?” Another one chimed in.

I even stumbled upon a book that belonged to the earlier Human Empire, which was eventually destroyed. I eventually chose a book, walked up to a seat, and sat down. The History of One Thousand Years. The Beast Kingdom was only mentioned in this one book, however, I'm not sure why that is. The book's title was neither innovative nor enticing. Hera switched the topic after she sensed that it led to a dead end. “Arthur’s book?” Cyril asked. “Yup, I had it with me today and then I got bored in history class so I went to check it out.” Hera even pulled the book from her bag and showed it to Cyril. “That book club really did change you.” The girl shook her head before turning the book to a page that she marked. She once again showed it to Cyril before reciting the same passage that she underlined on the page.

I walked toward the shelves, lazily running my fingers across the spines of the books as I scanned the titles. History of Blood Clans. Treaties of the Northern Territories. Ancient Magical Structures. Boring. Boring. Also boring. Who actually reads this stuff for fun? I kept moving along the shelves until one particular book caught my attention. It looked older than the others, the cover worn and faded like it had been opened a thousand times before. Curious, I pulled it out. The moment the book left the shelf, something clicked behind the wall. I froze. “…Okay.”

I was entranced. Weirdly enough, the book had no title at the front, which intrigued me even firther. I flipped it open and the words written in there made me owl eyed. I flipped through more pages and I was immersed in the book already. The book told the history of the clan and how the powers had come to be. I knew that this would be a great help in my training. I looked around and spotted a chair, which was situated beside a large window. I made myself comfortable there and placed the large book down on the table.
