-A Semi-Official Investigation Investigator Mohammed slumped heavily in his chair, the lamp casting long, hazy shadows of smoke across his desk. Opposite him, journalist Susan leaned forward, her eyes sharp and anxious. "What do you know about the tower?" he asked, his voice low but penetrating.

Everything was breaking her just so much. “Why… why would they do this?” she asked, her voice cracking with pain as she struggled to understand what it was that she still had no idea of. “In cases like this, there is a high possibility that there is something someone does not want her to reveal, or they have something to hide,” the investigator speculated from experience. “I don’t have all the details yet, but I am trying to dig deeper. I will find out who’s behind this, and why,” his professional way of speaking sounded assuring, “But you need to be careful, ma'am. Whoever is orchestrating this has powerful connections.”

The investigator called to give me his location and informed me that his boys already had Miss Ruiz in custody. Without wasting time, I pressed down on the accelerator and sped off to the location. I stopped in front of the house he directed me to. I took off my suit jacket and undid some of my shirt buttons. As I stepped out of my car, I noticed the investigator coming out of the house. He stopped in front of me and bowed. “Your Highness.” “Is she inside?” I asked and he nodded with his head still bowed. “What about the maid I told you to find? Anything on her yet?”

No fans. The man arrived exactly on time—gray suit, leather folder, sharp eyes that missed nothing. “Mr. Carter,” he said simply. “You’ve used my services before?” “Discretion is what I need.” He nodded. “That’s my business.” “I want everything on Chase Ryder. Financial problems. Ex-girlfriends. Family secrets. Scandals. If there’s dirt, find it. If there isn’t… dig deeper.” The investigator opened his notebook without expression. “Understood.”

The fact that they were still breathing made my blood boil. I shoved the thought aside and cleared my throat. "There are a few things we need to discuss." Laura nodded. "Okay." I crossed my arms. "The investigator wants you involved." Her brows furrowed. "Involved how?" "Not directly." I shook my head. "Just a few meetings here and there. Some questioning. Going over details again. Looking at suspects. Trying to figure out if you've remembered anything." Her face softened slightly. "That's all?" "That's all." She nodded.

I had told her we needed to talk, and she had brushed me off like I was nothing more than an inconvenience. Even when I had offered to follow her to wherever it was she was going, the speed at which she had turned me down was very alarming, but I had not pushed. Now I stood in my study, phone pressed to my ear, waiting for answers from someone else. “I haven’t been able to get to it yet,” the investigator said calmly. “But I will soon.” My jaw tightened at this. He was definitely not treating this as urgently as he should be. I know I told him that it wasn’t so urgent before, but with everything going on, it was becoming more urgent.

“Okay…” ‎“While investigating the whereabouts of Anthonio Smith...which I’m still working on, by the way...I stumbled upon some important information.” ‎A chill runs down my spine. “Okay…?” ‎There’s a brief pause on the other end. ‎“Victor Arc.” ‎My stomach drops. ‎“What about him?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper. ‎The investigator’s tone turns serious. ‎“He is not the man you think he is.”

“Every witness suddenly changes their story.” “That’s true.” “Documents vanish from nowhere.” “Yes.” He responded because he was completely aware of what was happening and it wasn’t new to him unlike it was to her. “Records are altered.” The investigator sighed again. “Exactly.” Marylin looked directly into his eyes. “Then what other choice do I have?” Finally, the investigator answered. “You keep investigating quietly.” Marylin shook her head immediately. “No.” “Why?” He asked because he knew that something was happening that he wasn’t even aware of. Meanwhile, Lucas walked behind me, giving me more details of the investigator he hired after she was no longer in sight. “He has been in the investigative business for about fifteen years.
