I pushed myself off the floor, desperate to escape the conversation before I blurted out my spiraling thoughts.
Later, as I poured myself a glass of water in the kitchen, Chris appeared again.
“Are you prepared?” he asked casually.
“Prepared for what?” I frowned.
“A week on the island,” he said, leaning against the counter. “Aren’t you excited?”
I stared at him, confused. “What island?”
His eyes widened as if he’d just realized something. “Oh... um... right.”
“Chris, tell me,” I demanded, narrowing my eyes.
“It’s Isaac’s wedding,” he explained reluctantly. “It’s happening on the island he shares with Mr. Han. I thought you were invited.”
