The man just...disappeared? Did I see it correctly? She wondered. "This is not the right time yet. You should not have burned the book.”

“Look, Your Highness.” Holly lifted her hands. A small whirlwind appeared overhead, drawing in all the nearby books still flying through the air. Clara watched as the books struggled against the air current Holly created. One managed to slip through, losing a page or two in the process. After taking a quick glance around, she climbed up on one of the library tables and jumped for a hefty tome as it flew overhead. Holly laughed. When she pointed a finger towards the flapping books, they froze in midair. She turned her hand towards herself and curled her fingers inward. The book gave a shudder but eventually drifted into her hands without a fight.

Leona said and stretched forth her little hands towards the strange ugly looking lady, who smiled and grabbed hold of one red apple. She looked behind the little girl with fascination. "Who is that?" She asked, pointing at nothing in particular, and that grabbed Leona's attention, who quickly turned to look behind her, to see what the old lady was pointing at, it was empty. The strange ugly looking lady opened her rotten eye and a maggot fell down into the apple and was quick to enter into the apple. "There is no one in here except you and I ma'am." Leona told the lady. "Maybe my good eye deceived me." The lady said apologetically.

etc. I spent five hours in front of the desk and under the light of the lamp in different positions, nourishing my intellect with those books. I read about German history and a very interesting legend about a princess who was raised as a bird by vultures, eventually becoming a falcon. A princess who was held captive so she would never escape the nest. A princess with white wings and eyes with the entrance to paradise. A princess who was pushed out of the nest before being taught to fly.

He seemed to have known what I was going to do. "I am confiscating all your books that have anything to do with the Moon Goddess and me!" I pushed him away as he had gotten too close to me. I scampered into his chamber and right there on the table, I saw the big book. Luckily, it was opened to the page of growing wings and soaring high. I was first attracted by the drawings on the page. A lady stood beside a cliff in the first drawing and jumped into the cliff in the second drawing. In the third drawing, she had grown wings while flying back up.

But she didn’t answer. We began to eat in silence, tearing at the dry bread like feral things. It wasn’t much, just a piece of bread hard as stone and a watery soup that tasted like rust. My hand trembled as I brought the spoon to my mouth. I caught the maid glancing back at us from the other side of the bars. Then, like a lightning strike, Lady calantha was on her feet. She lunged, hands darting between the bars to seize the maid by the neck. The tray clanged to the floor, the girl gasping in surprise and pain.

CHAPTER 7 Though sleep was challenging, Jeff managed to doze, but the dreams that followed seared his subconscious like a fire poker. In one, the dead fly in his vomit came to life and buzzed from the wastebasket, landing on his lips. He tried to blow it away, to spit it out when it crept down his throat, but the insect forced itself into his stomach where he could feel its vibrating hums as it laid batches of eggs. His gut grew heavy and bloated, swelling to twice its normal size as hundreds of maggots burst forth, eating their way out from the inside. He fought to scream, but larvae filled his lungs, suffocating him.
