The Last One Book Novels & Stories

I still remember coming to this office when I’m still in grade school, I love reading books in this place even I have my own mini library and study room especially when dad’s around, but today it reminds me of Lost. I run my hand through dad’s book collections alphabetically arranged according to Author’s last name, I guess it’s in the blood of being a bookworm. His huge mahogany desk still the same for as long as I can remember. On the left side are few of his liquor collections although dad doesn’t drink much. He has his own cellar here in our home.

I said to him. "Fine." Christian replied. "Sorry about that, this is going to be the last time I ever say such a thing to you. Is that okay?'' I considered for a moment before nodding my head. "Yes. It's for the best." At my response, he walked out of the door leaving me to wonder if the decision I just made was the best or something I would be joining to my list of regrets. Great, Belle. Great. ************************* The days passed by swiftly without Christian and I saying more than ten words to each other everyday. His birthday was drawing closer and I had no idea how his progress with the takeover was coming along.

asked Salsa. “You don't have to, Sa, just let me be alone. You can walk to the front of the complex through this campus to the bookshop. You see, bookshop is far away, right?" said Aini. "Okay, I'll go first. Bye," Salsa exclaimed, waving her hand. They parted ways in the car park. After Salsa's red Brio car drove out of the gate, only then did Aini walk out of the gate by herself on foot.

Then they vanished. They were edited. Messed up. Shut down. Still I dug deeper. I need pieces of information. Always pieces. Reports from years ago. Different places.. Same pattern. “Not much blood.. Picked targets. People who survived.” Every file ended the way. They were. Stopped. Not solved.. Hidden. My heart stayed calm.. Something else got tighter. Then I saw it. A name that wasn’t fully erased. “Cassian.” No last name. No where he was from or destination. It was there.

"Every gift you ever gave us came in two. Except the cake. Why am I always last?" The room went quiet. He frowned. "This is how it's always been. What's wrong with you today?" My mother shot me a look. "She's older. She's better. That's the order. If you were half as good as her, you'd go first." I had nothing left to say. Grace made her wish. The family sang around her. When it was my turn, the candles had almost burned out. Dante shrugged. "No more candles. Wishes don't mean anything anyway. You can make one next year, Eleanor."

The struggles and sorrows of that other life were finally sealed away—gently, tenderly, by the hands of time. -THE END-

Vivian's terrified gaze froze on the screen. Used up? She zoomed in on the photo I sent again and again. The notebook clearly read: The one hundredth time: Vivian Blake told me to apologize to Caleb Quinn, when I truly hadn't done anything. The previous ninety-nine times flashed through her mind like a storm, almost splitting her head open. If I'd truly been wrong this time, then the one hundredth chance wouldn't count. Thinking that, Vivian seemed to seize the last straw. She grabbed one of the men by the collar and questioned him with red eyes.
