The Last Unicorn Novels & Stories

A unicorn. Walda’s eyes widened. “But… I didn’t call for you!” The unicorn snorted, its voice deep and amused. “Of course you did. I’m here to help restore balance.” “But you’re a horse! A unicorn! How am I supposed to get you up those stairs? You won’t even fit through the door!” The unicorn chuckled. “You think I walk around like this all day? Obviously not.” It shimmered, its form shrinking and morphing into a scruffy gray German shepherd.

Jenna watched the crowd grow with more angst. Mack smiled as he began. He stepped in front of the unicorn first, “A rare sight indeed! This unicorn was captured in the forbidden forest! You all know how hard unicorns are to catch. Their blood is sacred and can give life. This unicorn could increase the years of your life! I’ll start the bidding at 100 cold coins.” Many buyers raised their wands, “do I have 200 coins?” the wands went up. “300, 400, 500. SOLD to the man in black!” Mack announced. The man smiled and one of Mack’s guards collected the union and money. The unicorn stomped his feet in protest but there was no use. He walked it outside the barn and Mack moved on to the next item.

Drake says. “Does it say how you will change the world, bringing the broken factions together?” I ask. He frowns at me. “Did you read it?” “No, I didn’t have to. It’s what you’re doing.” After the first night, the tension goes away and over the next week, we meet GoldMoon, the Ceryneian Hind from Greek mythology, the techrechauns, the trolls, and finally, we got to meet Lucero, the unicorn.

Manolo said. I scratched her chin and she closed her eyes comfortably. Unicorns are amazing! I've read about unicorns before, but I never knew there were dream-eating unicorns on the continent. Three bells rang outside the door, and it was midnight. Manolo puts his arms around Shae's neck. “Shae, wait for me.” Shae let out a few whimpers, as if to say goodbye. Manolo puts on his cape and hides his face in his hat. “Goodbye.”

Tears filled my eyes, but I did not let them fall. “It is fine, Mrs. Cardea. I should not have been in the way.” Daniel walked over and lifted my arm to look at the red skin. He frowned, but not out of concern. “What a shame. Her skin is damaged. It will not feel the same anymore.” He turned to Morgan with a helpless smile. “Mom, use cold water next time. And this rug came from overseas. It is very hard to clean.” In that moment, something inside me broke. It was not dignity, because that had disappeared long ago. It was the last small piece of hope I held for this world.

In the end, Noelle died on that snowy Christmas Eve. I quickly notified my older sister, Jennifer Gilder, who was overseas. She was the only family I had left in this world. After that, I brought Noelle to be cremated by myself. Noelle was six years old. I used to feel proud that she took after her mother, as she had a tall and slender frame despite her young age. However, now, all that was left of her was a tiny urn of ashes. Holding her in my arms, I whispered, "Noelle, you always said that you wanted to see the ocean. I'll scatter your ashes into the sea, okay?"

I ordered. The last pack. I will rule it; it is mine to rule and do whatever I want. Two days later, after tense searches and uneasy silences… Come in I shouted The subordinate entered. "Sir, bad news," he said nervously. "Isabella has declared herself the luna of the last pack, and Hunter is back in power. Emily, Hunter's human lover, escaped with one of the guards and took Hunter's son with her. They left together, running away from the pack after the upheaval. Right now, their whereabouts are unknown, and the alliance between the guard and Emily seems real—they risked everything to get Hunter's child to safety."

The opening sealed shut behind them both. Silence swallowed the facility whole. Then every screen flared to life one last time, displaying a single final message: DAY SEVEN HAS BEGUN. THE ORIGINAL IS COMING. AND IT KNOWS HER NAME.

Before I could say another word, the line disconnected, leaving behind nothing but the hollow beeping tone. The cold grew sharper and sharper, carving straight into my bones. Gritting my teeth, I pulled the blanket tighter around myself. Suddenly, my phone lit up with a notification. I turned my head slightly and saw that Morgan had just updated his social media. In the photo, he wore nothing but a thin short-sleeved shirt with a popsicle hanging from his mouth. 'So lucky Ms. Sheffield brought me a generator, or I would have frozen tonight too.' I stared at the picture for a long time.
