We both jumped, startled, to see a stern-looking librarian peering at us over a towering stack of books.
“Ahem,” she cleared her throat pointedly. “No… public displays of affection are permitted in the Royal Library.”
My cheeks flushed scarlet as Adrian threw me a sheepish grin. “Sorry, ma’am,” he mumbled.
The librarian, however, didn’t seem entirely displeased. A hint of a smile played on her lips. “Just… keep it professional in here, alright?” she said, her voice softening slightly.
With a final warning glance, she retreated back into the labyrinthine stacks of books. We both burst into laughter, the tension melting away completely.
