On New Year's Eve, she stayed in Marcus's room to keep him company and did not come home all night. At his son's parent-teacher meeting, she and Marcus attended together like a loving couple. Even when she traveled for work, she forgot to buy me a gift but remembered Marcus's measurements and bought him a suit. Whenever I questioned her even slightly, she accused me of having a dirty mind and insisted she was only taking normal care of him. A few days ago, I saw the purchase record for that fifty-two-thousand-dollar watch. I thought she had finally thought of me. Instead, reality slapped me hard across the face.

The librarian only wanted to have his own time without unnecessary interruptions. "Please try to find it by yourself", Hyuk Soo said sternly to the girl. But, when his eyes met the CCTV camera by accident, he remembered the owner practically imposed him to be more kind with the visitor, no matter how much he tried to remind him of the library's concept. However, the owner said him that since he was hired, more visitors come in. If he keeps acting indifferent, he'll be fired, as a consequence. "Fine", Hyuk Soo said, got up and helped this girl to find the book.

“Oh my God… Sam said yes!” Tasha and Marian leaned in, staring at the live stream. “She’s engaged?” Marian gasped. Naomi tapped another clip. “Right in the quad—look at all those people!” A stern Librarian emerged from between the shelves.“Excuse me,” he said quietly, but firmly. “This is a library. If you’re not here to read or study, please leave the hall.” Naomi flushed and tucked her phone away. “Sorry, sir. Of course.”

You really couldn’t try to bullshit me if your life depended on it, could you? He motioned forward with a chuckle. “Come on. Let’s go to the library.” *** Andy was glad he’d let the place stand. The stone lions guarding the front stairs were almost life-size versions of the real thing. Their gaze was attentive rather than fearsome while they watched the library’s only remaining patrons enter the red brick edifice.

She positioned herself with a clear view of the main walkway while still being partially concealed by the shelving units, creating the perfect vantage point for observation. The library was moderately busy for a weekday morning, with students scattered throughout the various sections. Some sat hunched over laptops at study tables, their fingers tapping rapidly across keyboards as they worked on assignments or research papers. Others browsed the shelves methodically, pulling books from their places to examine content or check copyright dates. The soft murmur of whispered conversations and the occasional rustle of turning pages created a gentle soundtrack of academic activity.

“Warn them! Tyronimics are one of the deadliest creatures and -” Gerey wasn't paying attention anymore. He had to warn them one way or the other. “Hide!” he whispered to the Jeyrin then pushed his seat backwards to stand on his feet. The librarian got to Gerey that very moment. “May I see the ward in your care?” Gerey ignored her question, swelled to his full height - which was quite intimidating. “There is a problem in our hands.”

“Maybe we’re looking in the wrong place. There has to be something—there’s always something.” A soft clearing of the throat startled us, and we turned to see the librarian standing nearby. He was an older man, his gray hair neatly combed, and his sharp eyes glinted with curiosity. “Luna,” he said, bowing slightly. “How can I assist you?” Fatima exchanged a glance with me before answering. “We’re looking for information about... creatures. Something that might explain what’s happening in the woods. Deformed humans, maybe monsters.” The librarian hummed thoughtfully, his fingers stroking his beard. “Perhaps you’re searching in the wrong direction,” he said after a moment.

They were waiting. Every footstep precise, every shift of air calculated. By the time you sank that low beneath the library, there weren’t supposed to be any visitors at this time of night. Torches burnt too green. Too reactive to bodies passing rather than drafts. Books lined the shelves but didn’t rest upon them. They watched you. And the warded halls bent in impossible ways just enough that you knew you didn’t belong there. I did. Well. I did once.

It was almost mid-day. The bell would be heard soon. Mrs. Letty walked in hurry with a rolled parchment in her hand. Since the truce had been settled, many scholars granted an access to the forbidden section by the Elder. As a librarian, it was her duty to assist them. It should be a busy time for both Lucas and her. But it turned out just her busy time. She didn’t see Lucas since he went out to pick up the books and parchments from the only school in town.

The chamber’s shadows still clung to Evelyn as she climbed the spiral staircase back to the library. Her hands trembled slightly, and her breath came unevenly, but inside her chest a fire had been lit—a fire that demanded she uncover every secret, no matter how dangerous. Lucien followed a step behind, silent, his amber eyes scanning the walls as though he could sense threats even in the faintest flicker of candlelight. Elias remained near the entrance of the library, waiting, his posture tense, fingers brushing the hilt of the dagger at his belt—a reflex he never allowed himself to ignore.
