I replied with a shrug. "Let's just say that I'm curious because I'm bored and also because anybody could be interested in hearing how two lovers met and since I don't have anything else that I'm doing with my time, I just want to listen to a story about how you met him. So, will you tell me or are you going to ask me to mind my business?" I asked. I desperately wanted her to tell me the truth but I'm not expecting her to be completely honest with me because it would make it obvious that their story wasn't exactly normal but I still wanted to hear her say something because I believe that in every lie, there's always an iota of truth.

"Just now, Xavier called me suddenly, asking where you were tonight," my mom said. "I sensed something was off from his tone, so I lied and told him we had just been on a video call for half an hour." I hadn't expected Xavier to figure it out so quickly. But did he not even suspect that the person he loved the most had killed his mother? How would he react once he learned the truth? The thought of Xavier's eventual breakdown made me feel a twisted sense of satisfaction.

I cut him off, pointing out, "You may not know, but you touch your earlobe when you lie." His hand hung in mid-air, then dropped as he tried to pull me close. "It's not what you think. I can explain." I pulled up the video and shoved it to his face. "This is why you bailed on me seven times, right?" I looked him in the eye. He held me, flustered. "I had my reasons." I waited for him to continue, curious about the reasons that had pushed him to marry Vivian behind my back and lie for three years.

AUTHOR'S POV Hardin's eyes roamed around the whole room before stopping at Sia who was giving him a hateful look. “ You lied to me! ” Sia hissed and rushed to Hardin before grabbing his coat, glaring at him. “ Sia! Look. Its not like this. ” Louis buttoned up his shirt back and came closer to her but Sia was not listening. She was just glaring at Hardin with tears filling up her eyes. She did not want to believe anything. But the evidence was in front of her.

“What happened again?” “I…” I swallowed and my heart rate picked up as I prepared to lie to him. “I don’t really remember the details. I just know that Lexa, you remember her, right? She, like, kidnapped me I guess?” It didn’t even sound true to my own ears. I had always been complete shit at lying, especially to dad. It didn’t help that he had a built-in lie detector and almost always caught people in the act. He hummed thoughtfully at my statement and turned to face me a little more. He was sitting opposite me on the couch, one of his arms slung over the back in a way that would’ve looked casual had it been anyone else doing it.

" Nicholas rushed over, his briefcase in hand, pulling her away with an embarrassed look. But she refused to leave, hoping I would give in. Things needed to come to an end. I walked up to them, smiling. "Mrs. Poldark, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you. Actually, I’ve already taken care of the issue with my perimenopause symptoms. “It’s your son who has infertility issues. Maybe you should think about how your grandchild came about." With that, I lost interest in the stunned couple and left them to continue bickering with Pearl. As the setting sun bathed Trevor beside the car in its soft glow, I suddenly felt a wave of nervousness and froze in place.

He caressed my hair, my back, and my nape as he whispered in a soft voice. We had never talked about such things before. I didn’t know how to react. I can't decipher if it's the truth or not, but I choose to believe him. “Do you remember where you saw it?" “I can't." The answer comes out too rushed…an indicator that he is lying through his teeth. His expression changes immediately when he sees that I have been able to see through his lie. The silence stretches like a bow drawn taunt. “I have heard stories of old alliance, founding families and old promises…maybe this came from one of the old families.” "That just explained absolutely nothing.” "Exactly why I wasn't so inclined to speak about it in the first place," he says. His voice sounds so resigned and done with this conversation.

I sniffed his perfume from a distance, it was one of the most expensive he had in his collection. “Why are you acting so nervous?” He asked, his voice trembling and diminished. I was actually trying to figure out if that was true or not, as I stood so dumbfounded and stared at him, without a single word. “Are you being serious right now? why aren’t you even talking to me, Ana?” He inquired again. “Um, I think I would have to drink some water, I feel thirsty, even before you came,” That was a blatant lie though, and I knew he wouldn’t believe me, but who was he to detect what I was up to since he wasn’t telepathic?.

The grief, pain, and screams all at once returned In droves. "If he truly misses he would have called but he didn’t, he truly misses me he would have responded to the messages I sent but he didn’t, if he truly misses me he would have visited or let me visit but you what! He didn’t" I just had to stop talking; I have nothing to say right now, if I continue talking I would burst into tears. After so many years, of believable lies and fake love, I can’t deal with this anymore. He doesn’t miss me, he doesn’t even care. "Dani!" He sighed
