"Damn. This is going to take us a whole lifetime." I lifted my arms like I was in prayer and closed my eyes as I chanted the revealing spell. I half expected to see it glow amongst the other books, exposing itself, but nothing. I presumed it was not in the spot where I stood, so I moved to the next, and the next row, repeating the spell. Melody's POV

“Even then, the spell might finish if enough blood has already been spilled.” I stared at him. “That’s impossible.” “Yes.” His smile was bitter. “I know.” I stood there, my mind racing through every strategy and watching each one collapse. “How do I stop a spell that might finish even after the caster is dead?” I asked. “You don’t.” Aldric reached into his robes and pulled out a small crystal that glowed with faint light. “But this might. It’s a disruptor. If you can get close enough to touch her while she’s casting, activate this. It should shatter the binding before it locks in.”

Misael, do you take me for a fool? Misael froze for a moment. "Mr. Whitley, what do you mean? I'm the victim here! That tumor is proof!" "Proof, huh?" Kellan waved his hand. "Bring her in." Two guards dragged in a sorcerer bound in chains and threw her down in front of Misael and Alayna. Alayna's face instantly drained of color, and her body trembled uncontrollably. "W-Who is this? I don't know her!" she screamed, denying everything.

The haunting lullaby was replaced by an oppressive silence. Liora, her eyes wide with a mix of terror and recognition, whispered, "I've heard of this... The Silent Spell. It's a moment where time itself seems to pause, where choices made could alter destinies." Zephyr, his hands glowing with protective magic, urgently said, "We need to break this spell. But how?"

This particular spell could only be used by high priestesses and only a high priestess more powerful than the one that casted the spell could see her or undo it. Elder Lazarus was not a witch, he did not have our blood and he was a full-fledged wolf. I was sure of this so how was this possible?

My blood—black as night—dripped onto the stone. "Kieran Draven Wolfe," I whispered. "Blood rage of your curse, hear my call." The air shimmered as my spell took hold. "When next the moon rises, you will bring her to me." The black blood boiled then disappeared, the spell complete. Let Erik Storm try to guard her now. Let Isa try her pitiful counterspells. I had already won. As I turned away from the altar, a sharp pain shot through my chest. I gasped, grabbing at the empty space where my heart should be.

We all sweared Dwarfs were just some made up species in a children’s book, but turns out they are real. The next week I was with Elder Darnell learning 6 Dark spells: Cloying Darkness, Darkvision, Flood of Darkness, Night Vision, Troubled Sleep, Weak Dark Bolt. I swear to the Moon Goddess the Bolt spells are my favorite ones to learn. For these 6 spells I did great and picked them up quickly.

A bloodstone, drenched in forbidden incantations. Its heart was throbbing against my palm, living and ready to feast. I had rehearsed the spells over and over again, so that they just come to me naturally now as I say them. "Mother of the Moon, devour the traitor, Strip the wolf, Strip Edrian off his breath. Let his life unravel beneath your light..." The words went in the stone and it got hot. I smiled meekly, I gazed around. No one was even aware of it, priests, guards, not even Xander himself.

“No name. No face. Just more dead ends and more bodies.” Elara met my gaze steadily. “Not entirely nothing. The spell itself tells us something. Whoever cast it is powerful. Older magic. The kind that requires sacrifice and time. This is not the work of a lone traitor.” I nodded once my mind already turning over the next steps because I was not about to let this defeat me. “Then we keep hunting,” I said quietly. “We tear the city apart if we have to. We find the next link in the chain. And when we do I will make sure they talk before the spell can kill them. Thank you Elara. You may go.”

Jess wished she were standing closer to Caine but reluctantly took Kiaan and Damien's clammy hands when they reached out to her. "Say these words three times," Damien ordered. “Shadows lurking in the night, I summon you, come to us tonight. Give us the revenge we seek, Twist the strong and make them weak. I call on you to make this spell magick, so mote it be." After the third iteration, Jess looked about the room and noticed the others doing the same. Brows raised, Kiaan asked, "Is something supposed to happen?" "Not now," Damien assured him. "But it will. Trust me."
