I thought of Lila hissing that I was no better than her. Of my adoptive parents’ ashes drifting out of the brazier. Of the girl I’d been with metal locked around her throat, convinced she’d never be allowed to choose anything. “I know what happened,” I whispered, more to myself than to the ring. “I don’t need you to remember it for me anymore.” I opened my fingers. The fragment dropped. It hit the coals with a soft *tink* and vanished beneath the glow. Heat flared. The metal glowed, then warped, then sank into the molten mass at the bottom of the crucible.

A gold chain which was a symbol of his good old times, was gone. “Holy fucking shit. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Mira……” He screamed her name. He tried her phone. Switched off. He ran outside and took a cab. Her home was locked. She had not been there. He decided to go to police, but the thought hit him. What would he say when they will ask him the source of money? That he sold his wife? I finally explained to him, making him gasp.

The ma wiggled like a worm, trying to get free. But a little further behind them were Zhask's clothes which had been torn apart so dreadfully and hidden among them was a blue thing glowing in the sunlight. The Moon Necklace. My eyes drifted to Adam. He, too, had seen it. Then, with his shaking hands, he pointed the gun towards the necklace and made a perfect shot. I gasped as I heard the gems on the pendant of the necklace get hit by the bullet. It was a clear shot that destroyed the pendant and all that was left were the bits and pieces of the blue gemstone scattering like broken glass on the floor.

Men gathered all the necessary bars and started casting them,, some melts the metals to create a new one, and some help in hammering the iron bars into shape. “We can help,” Cannai said as they approach them. “Sure thing,” Therens answered while hammering the piece of metal. “Where is Nanami?” Therens asked. “She helped General Malta in the kitchen,” Cannai answered as he look for some hammers. “I have extra hammers over there you can get metals in the toolbox,” Therens said as he pointed towards the huge toolbox. “Therens, I actually know where to find a good source of metals,” Cannai said.

The precious metal in Gold Land Kingdom was called pure silver. The metal found in the half shifters kingdom was called the Ash steel. The metal Found in the Water Kingdom was called Liquid. The metal found in the Night Warrior's Kingdom was called God's bone. And finally, the metal found in the Sun Kingdom was called Heat steel. "I don't get what the difference is." I complained as I looked at the book I was reading and then turned my eyes to the silver Key in my hand.

I lifted my eyes to the walls and above us to where the circle of eyes had been, but they were gone. There weren’t any more of them by the gunmen either. Where had they all gone? I dropped my gaze to the ground and frowned as a glint of something caught my eye. I put my hand down. The stone felt warm beneath my hand, almost too hot to make sense. I brushed some of the dirt aside, swallowing nervously as the glint turned into a sheen then into a metallic gleam. “Silver,” I whispered. She clapped. “Ten points to Pandora!”

The same gold-silver light that shimmered through the creek. “Not again,” I whisper under my breath. “Mum?” Jaxon looks up, eyes wide. “You’re shiny.” “I know, sweetheart.” I force a smile, even as my pulse spikes. “It’s okay.” But it’s not. The hum grows louder, spreading through my chest like wildfire. The air around me thickens, vibrating faintly. The spoon slips from my fingers, clattering onto the floor, and the smell of warm metal fills the air. Jaxon takes a step closer, looking worried. “Mum?”

The Bethlehem Steelworks was a skeletal ruin, a cathedral of rust and decay on the industrial edge of the city. Dawn broke cold and grey, painting the corroded metal in hues of slate and blood. Jack arrived alone, as tradition dictated. He walked through the cavernous, silent foundry, his footsteps echoing in the vast space. In the center, a ring had been marked on the grime-covered floor with powdered silver, a shimmering circle of death. Kael stood waiting, his eyes burning with a feverish intensity.

Hanging from the moon charms are silver initials: Z. I close my eyes and reach for a memory—any memory—of these bracelets. But there’s nothing. With trembling fingers, I align the two halves. As they click together, forming a perfect, glowing moon, the room disappears. Darkness swallows me whole. When it lifts, I’m standing in a lavish room. A single grand chandelier glows above, scattering light across the polished marble floors. Gold-framed mirrors reflect a space fit for royalty, but before I can absorb it fully, grunts echo through the room.
