"What is this book for, master?" the professor queried. It was a thick book with golden engravings on it that shines and changes at random, as if enchanted. It's a magical book, thought the professor. "It's a book on how to become an immortal. Spread that among my followers. Do not fail me, slave," the man said gravely. "As you wish master!" the professor's hand was trembling as he held the book on his hands.

Disinterested, I slammed it back into its slot, nearly losing my balance as the ladder groaned beneath my satin slippers. Not what I was looking for. Not even close. The selection was a literal horror show. The only texts that even mentioned the word magic were terrifyingly detailed logs of public torture, trials, and executions compiled by the Northern High Council. I decide to start with trying to find what ingredients may have been used in the sedative Clay gave me. The first book I pull off the shelf isn't very helpful. It discusses the different myths about how lycans were created but doesn't talk about any possible weaknesses. Placing the book back on the shelf, I scan the titles next to it: 'Lycan Growth and Maturation', 'The Legend of the Lycan', and 'Lycan magic'. Magic? I've never heard of lycans being able to use magic. My interest peaked, and I pull the book off of the shelf and open to the first chapter. I skim through the text, but soon shut the book, deciding to focus on my first task.
