If only the world could be as peaceful and uncomplicated as this moment, everything would be so much better. The constant worry I feel when I can't see Phoenix, especially at night, would vanish, and my life would be so much simpler. Every night, I find myself hoping to make it through the next day safely and to see Phoenix again. Alex spent the past few hours upon returning home setting up the backyard for the dogs. He somehow managed to build two doghouses in one day and placed a bunch of obstacle courses around the backyard. Saying that he was excited about these new dogs was an understatement. Mars shook his head with a smile. “Vanylla is my cure. I haven’t stayed up all night since I’ve been with her—so it’s been about five years now.” Aidan nodded, his mouth slightly open in surprise. He acknowledged how, for years, Mars had struggled to overcome his insomnia. For a brief moment, Malikha’s face crossed Aidan’s mind. Would he finally be able to sleep peacefully once he got his revenge on her? “I’m glad you’ve recovered.” Mars nodded with a smile.

“You think you’ve won tonight. But Kelvin is coming. You can’t stop him. None of you can.” Then, before anyone could react, Marcus moved. With a speed that belied his age, he lunged toward the nearest torch and swung it down, scattering burning oil across the stone floor. Flames hissed and leapt upward. “Stop him!” Graham shouted. Ronald and two warriors rushed forward, but Marcus twisted away with the grace of a wolf. He darted through the smoke toward the side door, his silver sash flashing like lightning. “Seal the exits!” Graham barked, but Marcus was already gone.
