The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials Novels & Stories

But it surely meant this wasn’t about brute strength, rather it was about strategy and critical thinking. From somewhere above, the elder’s disembodied voice rang out and echoed through the space. “To pass this trial, you must reach the center of the labyrinth before the time runs out, you have just five minutes. But beware, for this is no ordinary maze. It shifts, it deceives, and it will test your mind and body.” The moment he finished speaking, a deep gong sounded. Nobody hesitated, they all rushed through the maze with speed that astounded me. Once again, this reminded me that these contestants were from different species, even ones I knew nothing of, Scarvyn’s were fast, but I had zero

Cassian leaned against a column, arms crossed, blood drying at his collar. Lucien stood a few feet away, his cold blue eyes flickering to her and then away. And Darius… He was missing. —THE NEXT TRIAL Alpha Roran raised a hand. “For this round, you will enter the Smoke Labyrinth. A shifting maze that tests not your strength, but your instincts. Your fears. Your truths.” He paced slowly. “You will face illusions. Regrets. Temptation. If your will breaks… the maze will never let you leave.”

The pack had to navigate the maze, but each tunnel was unstable and could collapse at any moment. Sarah took the lead, "Stay close and keep moving! We'll find the way through together." With each step, they felt the ground shift beneath them, but they held on to one another, guiding each other safely through the treacherous maze. After what felt like an eternity, they emerged into the light, victorious. As they caught their breath, the guardian spoke again, "You have faced the instability of the earth and triumphed. The next trial awaits." The second trial tested their communication and trust as they were separated and placed in different sections of a dense forest. Each pack member had to s

Slowly, the heat began to subside, and the flames flickered out. When I opened my eyes, the crowd was silent, their faces a mixture of awe and disbelief. Darius stepped forward, his expression unreadable. “You’ve passed the Trial of Flames,” he said. “But that was only the first part.” Of course, it wasn’t over. He gestured toward the edge of the clearing, where a towering structure loomed. It was a massive maze made of thick, twisting branches, its entrance dark and foreboding. “This is the Maze of Shadows,” Darius explained. “Inside, you’ll face illusions meant to break your spirit. You must find the exit without succumbing to the traps within. Only then will you truly earn our trust.”

I felt my stomach churn. “In each round, tasks will be assigned. Completion leads to progression. Failure leads to elimination.” “Elimination?” I repeated. Nova whispered, “It means death, sweetheart.” I swallowed hard, trying to steady my breathing. The screen flashed again, showing symbols, maps, and glowing red sectors. “Round One: Orientation Phase – Trial of Fear.” “Objective: Escape the Maze alive.” The floor beneath us rumbled. A huge section of the wall slid open, revealing a dark tunnel lined with flickering lights. A low mechanical growl echoed from inside it.

“We can do it again.” The ground beneath them shifted, forming three glowing pathways. Each path seemed to lead to a different challenge. “Choose wisely,” the voice warned. --- The Trials Begin The group chose the middle path, which led them to a forest shrouded in thick mist. Shadows moved among the trees, whispering unintelligible words. “This is already bad,” Mia muttered, clutching Logan’s arm. Their first trial began when they encountered a massive, chained creature guarding the forest’s exit. It was a shadowy beast with glowing red eyes and claws that could tear through steel.

“The closer we get to Sanctuary, the stronger our enemies become.” Jessica stared ahead, her resolve hardening. Whatever waited for them, she knew one thing for certain: failure wasn’t an option. They resumed their journey, the runes scattered across the landscape began to glow brighter, forming a message in the sky above them. "The Final Trial Awaits. Only One Will Survive." And then, without warning, the earth split open beneath their feet, swallowing them whole.

I didn't need her negativity today. " I know each one of you knows the rules and requirements. But I will still give you a little brief."He said, "The challenge consists of two parts: the Moon Trial and the Sun Trial. The Moon Trial is a test of strength, speed, and endurance, where the Alphas and Lunas have to race across the land under the full moon, facing various obstacles and enemies along the way. The first ten Alphas to reach the finish line will qualify for the second part of the challenge. "

“The Final Trial, the Wolf’s Heart, shall demand of you absolute inner peace. Let it be understood: any mere tests of skill, wit, or military strategy, such as you have encountered heretofore, hold no relevance. My purpose is solely to guide you toward reconciliation within yourselves, for it is this tranquility that shall permit the moon to illuminate your ultimate truth.” Inner peace. It felt like an impossible demand. How could I find peace when I was trapped in possibly becoming the Luna and a Rogue movement that claimed to need me? “We shall commence a journey immediately to the Ashfall Pack territory, for it has been decreed that the Final Trial shall be conducted near that place—at th

But as he fixed his gaze on the piece of flesh, realization dawned on him, and the color drained from his face. "T-This is…" There was a scar on it, one that looked like a star. It was the burn scar my mother had gotten while saving Adrian. Back then, Adrian and I had been dating for a year, and he had come to visit my family for the first time. Wanting to leave a good impression on everyone, he insisted on cooking even though he had never done it before. But he messed up the very first step—pouring oil into the pan—causing a massive fire to erupt. The flames surged toward Adrian in an instant.
