The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials Novels & Stories

She allowed her mind to wander to the very place she had tried to lock herself out for her own sanity. Chaotic Dark It was a mess of swirling scenes, memories and imaginations. She didn't realize that she was squeezing the left part of her chest. She was engrossed in the jumbled imagery, she didn't notice the pain she that was gripping her heart. She crawled towards the couch, muttering lowly to herself. With enough courage that she could use to vanquish the empty feeling in her, Isabelle lifted the central cushion.

It wasn’t too deep, but perhaps it would need some stitches. The crowd erupted in cheers as the last spirit beast was taken down. Near Scarlett, Mimbi was panting and trying to hold herself straight. Her hair, which had been perfectly braided just a few moments ago, was filled with sand and blood. “Come forth and drink the draught of embers,” yelled the High Chieftess. There was no time to check wounds or gain strength before the second trial. The trainees formed a line by the pylon. Mimbi got behind Scarlett, smiling at her. The girl in front of her had her armor ripped in the back, and she was almost naked from the waist up.

Seeing that it was near her homeroom made her feel happy that she may get in the classroom before she was noticed. Laughter and the sounds of a female with a high-pitched voice that felt like nails on a chalkboard filled Alice's ears. Her gaze went down the hallway as she went to pass it. Morgan was there with her boyfriend the new Alpha Jared Stone. He had just turned eighteen and after this Friday at the full moon, he may be able to find his mate. Everyone thinks it will be Morgan, his dad’s Beta’s daughter. Her brother Josh, the new Beta, was down there laughing and punching the Gamma Luke in his right arm. They were the popular kids. The ones Alice tried to avoid. Her legs began to move

Suddenly a mischievous idea came to mind,I grinned taking out the fake robot chrockroaches I made, how about a little prank. I tiptoed to Stacey's room opening the door gently I peeped in to see if she was awake. After making sure she was asleep, I stepped into the room, i gently walked closer to her bed,, lifted her shirt and dropped the chrockroach on her back then left the room. I did the same to Erick and Jace before turning on the robots with the little remote in my hand The chrockroaches began crawling all over their bodies while they woke with a start, they started screaming trying to get the fake bugs of their bodies while I rolled in laughter

Another beat passed and then a new pulse rippled through the room. Magic. Ancient. Cold. A scroll appeared in the air and dropped onto the floor with a soft thud. Sevrin picked it up. Black wax. Red seal. The next Trial. He broke it open and read aloud: By decree of the High Blood Council, You will face your third Trial tomorrow at sundown. You will not fight. You will not flee. You will negotiate. The surviving contestants will be placed into factions. Your goal is simple: Convince them to make you their leader.

Like they want to see what I’ll do now. I move forward slowly, ducking as fire lashes from above. The ground trembles under my boots. A section of the path explodes beside me. I flinch and shield my face. The air smells like ash and heat and something else… something wrong. This isn’t just a test. It’s a trap. But I keep going, step by step, until the flames thin and the heat fades. I reach the next part of the trial. A river. It rushes beneath a long, narrow bridge made of stone and rope. At first glance, it looks stable enough. But the moment I step onto it, the ropes creak. Hard. The boards beneath my feet shift like they want to fall apart.

The flames of Elara were leading them on, burning the illusions that should have misguided them. The rumbling intensified as they got to the very heart of the maze, and now the ground under them shook horribly. The guardian's voice: it was like that of a roaring lion, which seemed to echo deep inside the very walls. "In the next trial, your wisdom and intuition will be tested," said the guardian. "You must know these symbols and discover what they conceal from you."

Soon, the first trial began—choosing a cave to inhabit. Safiya stepped forward to explain the situation: "The Alpha Council has recorded some information, and now we're willing to share it with everyone. There are over a hundred caves scattered throughout this rainforest, and each can only hold one trial candidate. The Blood Moon Trials are essentially a role-playing scenario. Each cave is home to... some 'entities.' They were once powerful werewolves, but now they're trapped souls—wolves abandoned by their packs. They'll pretend to be your family, living with you for seven days. Remember, they're lone wolves—mad and dangerous—but at the same time... they desperately crave genuine 'connectio

They’d been led into a trap. The walls groaned, and the air turned heavy as they maneuvered through the sudden maze of narrow corridors. Every direction seemed to be filled with nothing but more walls, more dead ends. “Is this... part of the Trials?” Alex gasped as he tried to steady his breath, sweat dripping down his forehead despite the chill in the air. “I don’t think so,” Marcus replied, his voice tight. “This isn’t a test. This feels wrong.” Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the labyrinth. It wasn’t the Minotaur this time, but something else, something too quiet, too precise to be a mistake.

Scarlett's heart pounded in her chest as she reminded herself that every illusion was just that—a trick to deceive her. With each step, Scarlett encountered obstacles designed to test her resolve. She faced endless corridors that led to dead ends, walls that closed in on her, and illusions of Gabriel's voice echoing through the maze, tempting her to go astray. But Scarlett pushed through, focusing on her bond with Gabriel and the love that bound them together. Hours turned into an eternity as Scarlett navigated the treacherous maze, her determination never wavering. Her palms were sweaty, and her legs ached, but she refused to give up. She couldn't fail Gabriel, not when he needed her most.
