She opened the book. The first pages were practical. A record of the Waiting: its stages, what to expect, how the territory responded. She read standing at the bookshelf, with Lucien beside her, close enough that she could feel his warmth against the cool air of the chamber. Neither of them spoke. The only sound was the occasional turn of a page. Then she reached the section headed On the Question of Pairing. She read it twice before she said anything. "The convergence isn't symbolic," she said finally. "You knew that."

But as long as she's competent, I don't mind increasing her salary. "Dear, have a seat. Eat your breakfast now. I have a Book Club meeting to attend to, I'll be leaving Ecklis in your care then. Have a good day!" Aunt instructed as she took the book called Dialogue on the Infinity of Love by Tullia d'Aragona from the table and clutched it. "Alright, enjoy your book club, Aunt Amy!"

“It’s pretty wild. You’re in for an interesting night.” Luna grabs another copy of the book from a nearby stack and hands it to me. “Here you go. This one’s a fresh copy, we have plenty. You’ll see why in a minute.” I take the book, glancing between them. “You’ve actually got extras? What kind of book club is this?” Lilly grins mischievously. “One that takes its material seriously. We didn’t just pick this one by chance. We’ve been swapping theories about it for weeks now. Everyone’s dying to hear your take.”

Yet here I was, in this room full of people who had chosen me, not because they had to, but because they wanted to. I smiled, a real one this time, and sat at the center of the circle.
