Ever since she'd seen the news about the release of Wolf in her New Reviews magazine, she'd had a feeling in her gut this was where she needed to look. Jamie had credited a lot of her information to a book titled Legends of the Werewolf. Lia had read and reread the notes her great-grandmother had handed to her in those last sad moments. Notes that told about generations past that came here from Romania and grew the pack. This had to be the book. Legends of the Werewolf. Surely there couldn't be two books with the exact same title.

I respected him for it. “I want someone to pay,” he growled, the menace in his voice made even my wolf chuckle happily. Well, ok. I was a ruthless bastard and there was no way I did anything that didn’t to some degree line up with my plans. The wolf in front of me had a reason to hate the Blackwood pack as much as I did, and he WAS a pure Beta wolf – a rarity these days. I’d be stupid to let such an opportunity pass me by…

I carefully opened the book, the pages crackling with age, and began to read. The text was written in an ancient script, difficult to decipher, but the more I read, the more a sense of dread settled over me. It spoke of a rare lineage of wolves, ones with powers that could either save or destroy. My heart pounded as the descriptions started to match what I had seen in Emily, the strange glow in her eyes, the way her presence had started to affect those around her, even me.

“We did what we had to for the pack. For power. But you’re still ours. Come home, honey. Please. We can fix this.” I hung up. Threw the phone against the wall. It cracked but didn’t break. I picked it up, hands shaking, and dialed Mila instead. She answered on the first ring. “Sky? You okay? I’m five minutes away… ” “I shifted again.” The words tumbled out. “For real. Last night, during the fight at the warehouse. Eli’s guys were everywhere, bullets flying, I felt this heat in my chest, bones cracking, fur everywhere. I took down two of them before I even realized what I was doing. Mila, I’m a wolf. A real one. And my powers… they’re weird. Strong. Like I could feel every heartbeat in the ro

Mirra made a sound that was not quite agreement and not quite disagreement, the sound of someone acknowledging a point they found partially valid. "Tomorrow," she said. To me. "Tomorrow," I said. I stood. I looked at the closed leather volume on the table, the three hundred and ten years of silver wolves documented in careful columns, the record of what happened to the packs that received them poorly and the ones that did not. I pressed the locket through my coat. Three centuries, my wolf said. Not with the weight of burden. With the weight of something understood. Three centuries of us. I turned toward the door. And now, she said, us.

--- The next morning, Elara returned to the library. She was determined to find an answer. She would not give up. She could not give up. The future was too important. Her pack was too important. She found a text tucked away in a dusty corner, its pages yellowed with age. It was bound in leather so old it was cracked and crumbling. She carefully opened it, her fingers gentle on the fragile pages. It was written in an ancient language, the words faded and difficult to read. But as she studied it, she realized it was a record of the First Wolf's life, a chronicle of his creation and his power. It was the most complete account she had ever seen.

I collapsed on the ground, panting like i just ran a marathon. My wolf came alive but it was weak.too weak to win against Alice. DAY3:The fire. I flipped on the 20th page.it talked about stances, strikes, moves to kill.I didn't have time to be gentle.i shifted back and forth, every attempt stronger than the last.every shift ripped me apart but i didn't stop.i tried untill i could hold my wolf form for ten minuts, thirty,an hour without collapsing. THE ARENA. The aren was packed with more than five hundred thousand wolves cheering to see blood.

Another roar rumbled the Earth but this time it was not what sucked the life out of me. The men in front of my eyes had turned into monsters. Unnatural and terrifying big wolves. Not wolves... these wolves stood up like humans. "Oh, my Lord! Make it a delusion." I mumbled as my wits left me. The monster-cum-Jordan eyes fell on me when I tried to make an attempt at life. He snatched me up by the waist in his claws. "God, let it be a dream! Please!" I took a breath in to shout my heart out as my last ditch effort before death when another scream breached the cruel forest.

I wondered if I had any markings on my face. Then I remembered there was a lake nearby! I could go there and see my reflection. My father watched me for a moment and I saw him give me a slight nod. That was all I needed. I began to run from the circle, running out of the pack's encampment. As I ran, I marveled at all the new sensations I could feel in this form. The earth beneath my paws felt amazing, the wind in my fur was incredible. So lost in all the sensations, I didn't realize that I had been followed by another wolf. I looked over, instantly realizing the wolf was Greyson. His wolf was almost as large as my father's, however while my father was black, Greyson was a dark grey and his e

Mira led me to a room with a small bed, a woven blanket, and no windows. A cell, really just one without bars and locks. “Kael will be down the hall, the fifth door to the left. The door doesn't lock from outside. You can try to run, though I wouldn't recommend that.” “I'm not running.” “ We'll see about that.” She turned to leave, then stopped. “ One last thing. The Black Wolves do have a saying: Trust is earned by blood, not words. Remember that tomorrow.”
