For him we will fake it till we make it. I drag a hand over my face and look at the phone in my hand… the photos I used as leverage, as a weapon, as the last thing I ever wanted to use but did anyway. Because I had to. Because she forced my hand. Because I’m exactly what she said I am. A monster inside. I don’t even know what monster I am. I don’t even know what the name Vance really means. But I’m going to find out and when I do, I’m going to destroy it. Maybe.

I wiped my lips with the back of my hand, disgusted with myself. Stop it, I commanded myself. You are a Hunter. You do not crave blood. You do not eat people. But the monster inside me didn't care about titles or morals. It just wanted to feed, to consume, to devour. I stopped in front of the balcony doors. The heavy blackout curtains were drawn, plunging the room into darkness, but my eyes pierced through the gloom with terrifying clarity. I reached out and gripped the handle. Locked. I applied a little pressure, intending to just jiggle it.

And that terrified him. Kristen had looked at him like he was more than a monste, like he was a good man. And deep down, he believed her. But belief is dangerous. It makes you soft. And softness is fatal in his world. Carlo collapses into a chair, overwhelmed. He’s a feared man, a killer. But now he’s haunted by the memory of Kristen’s breathless gasp, the warmth of her skin, and the sound of her crying behind a locked door.

My eyes darted across the dim room, suddenly hyper-aware of the stillness no creaking shelves, no distant footsteps, only my shallow, uneven breath echoing off the stone walls. Now, with every generation, a monster is born. I froze. A cold weight settled in my chest, tightening with every beat of my heart. Stephen. My Stephen. The monster… lived in him. A sharp gasp escaped my lips before I could catch it. I pressed a hand against my ribs, trying to hold myself together, but the ache only grew. I didn’t want this truth. I didn’t ask for it. I think you can grasp an idea of how isolated and busy they kept me while I was at the institution. They broke me and I stayed broken. The man that was fated to make me whole turned out to be actually scared of me from the inside. Can I blame him though. I am a monster after all and it is all that I know. I was bought to be a monster and being a monster is all that know now. A damn good one too.

His blood was a hot rush in my mouth as it coated my fangs; I wanted to bite clean through his throat to feel the rush of his life bleeding out. "Konrad!" Mom yelled. She brought me back to myself before the bloodlust could overpower my thoughts. I wondered if she knew what I had been thinking. Was she trying to control the monster in me? Was it even right to say I had a monster inside or was it more I was a monster? I was prepared for her to tell me to control myself and stop. I was used to being scolded for being who I really was---but I wasn't used to what Mom said next.

My eyes, that I closed instinctively, shoot open, the veins in my neck disappearing once more. It’s like there is a monster that already exists inside me on sleeping mode. This monster keeps appearing and disappearing. It’s all about letting that monster come out from inside me or not. No matter what…I will always choose to push this monster back inside. This animalistic side of me should never empower my real self. “ Better? ” He asks, knowing well that he controlled me by just kissing me. It’s scary, even more scary than letting the monster come out. “ Of course. ” I whisper in a low tone. My eyes go down to my bare body and blood rushes to my face, turning it beet red.
