My nails peel at the tape as I fidget and try to figure out what to do next. Taking a deep breath, I open the cover to discover that there is a single name on the inside. Nelli Stillson. Looking over the name and tracing it with my fingers I wonder how the book found its way into this box. “Should I return it to the library or to the little girl? Most likely the library has written it off a while ago as missing and bought a new one. So perhaps I will find the little girl’s family and return it to her. Besides, I have been looking for an adventure.”

Carefully, he lifted the page. A sharp fear moved through him. The drawing showed three figures standing beneath black trees. A little girl. A woman with long dark hair. And beside them, half-hidden beneath the ground, a man reaching upward while roots twisted around his body. Written above the drawing in crooked letters were the words: MAMA LIVES UNDER THE TREES. Arman slammed the notebook shut immediately. The air around him suddenly felt thinner. That night, he burned every drawing Zara had made. The smell of smoke filled the backyard while flames curled hungrily around paper and melting crayon wax.

I jolted awake, trembling violently as cold sweat clung to my skin. A nightmare. Only a nightmare… though Hazel remained strangely restless beneath my skin. Suddenly, the door pushed open and Dominic crossed the room in seconds, concern darkening his expression. He was beside me before I could steady my breathing, his hand closing around mine. "Are you hurt, Natalia?" "I heard you from the room beside yours.” I turned my gaze to him as I regained my composure. "I–I'm fine. It was just a nightmare," I said, brushing away strands of hair from my face.

I stared blankly at the hospital ceiling for a long time, wondering if it was all just a dream or if I was… "You're awake? You collapsed from overworking yourself to exhaustion before your colleagues found you and sent you here. How are you feeling now?" Holding a clipboard, the nurse rattled off questions and quickly recorded my condition before rushing off. I pushed myself upright, and something fell from my arms. It was a brand-new notebook that was beautifully made and even carried a comforting scent. Jess knew that she couldn’t sleep, she needed to be vigilant, so she rather read the book, trying to make some logic out of the craziest few weeks she had ever had too experience. The more Jess read, the more live seemed like a joke, how could mates and werewolf really exist? How could mind-links, super speed, heightened hearing, and super healing exist?
