I close my eyes. The game is over. But the nightmare? The nightmare has only just begun.

"Shadows don't move on their own." Except mine always had. I did the breathing exercise Mrs. Hawthorne taught me when I was little, count to ten, close your eyes, think of something peaceful. When I opened them again, everything was normal. Just regular darkness doing what darkness does. My phone said 3:33 AM. Of course it did. Every time the nightmares woke me up, it was always 3:33. The nightmare was still fresh, playing on repeat behind my eyes. A burning kingdom,a man with silver eyes reaching for me, mouth moving in words I couldn't hear. Shadows swallowing everything the castle, the sky, the screaming people. And me, falling through darkness that tasted like death itself.

Milena~ I blink countless times, staring at the book. The Goddess has cursed me with another nightmare. Something strong enough to make me go crazy. It’s a nightmare; however, I can’t say for certain because the book is an inch away. I pluck it off the shelf, flipping pages, making sure it’s the exact book. My mind tangles as my head swirls. Closing the book, a sigh breaks through my throat. I’m not dreaming. I'm holding the book. Same book gifted to me years ago.

My conversation with Alpha Nader about the white wolf in my dreams suddenly felt more significant, more urgent. There had been something in the book he had given me, about dreams and ancient bloodlines. "Wait," I said, practically leaping off the bed. "There was something in a book—Alpha Nader gave me this collection of ancient texts, and I remember reading something about dreams." I rushed to my dresser where I'd left the leather-bound volume, my hands trembling slightly as I flipped it open. The aged pages felt delicate under my fingers as I searched for the section I half-remembered reading two weeks ago.

She stretched her arms, looking around the room. Her heart nearly dropped when she noticed the man still heavily asleep behind her. She looked down at her chest and a small gasp escaped her lips. She quickly grabbed the blankets and covered her exposed chest. “Shit. Shit. Shit.” She muttered under her breath. The memories of the other night were slowly flooding her head. It was like everything was coming to her all at once. She’d had sex, with a stranger nonetheless. This couldn’t possibly be happening. Except it was.

My heart was racing a mile a minute as I gasped awake, sweat cooling on my skin despite the warm night air. It was the same dream as always—careening over the cliff in that car, the icy lake rushing up to meet me, the taste of blood and water filling my lungs. Then… darkness. I was someone who suffered from nightmares, but paradoxically, the darkness here, was calming. I dragged my feet towards his bed and that’s when I saw the frame on his nightstand, next to a Bible. This man owned a Bible? My curiosity fully took over from this moment. I flipped it open. Maxine Jackson. I frowned a closed it. Who was she? My eyes slid back to the frame and I picked it up. It was a picture of a young woman, probably in her early thirties. She had thick black hair and blue eyes. Alexander’s eyes were a dark grey, but the resemblance was uncanny. This was his mother and that Bible perhaps, was hers.

Its nostrils flared as it took in the scents of the night, its body coiled and ready for action. 'I'm sorry to interrupt you ma but if I heard well, are you saying a man turned into an animal?' She stood frozen, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief. She and her partner struggled to process what they had just heard, their minds grappling with the impossible reality of a man transforming into a wolf. They turned to each other, searching for answers in each other's faces.

But she did not realize how quickly it could turn into nighttime. "The sun was up just a moment ago," she whispered. "Seconds ago, actually. Why is it slowly turning nighttime already? This is too--" her whole body jolted as a book popped out right in front of her. It glowed, as if inviting Verena to open the pages under the moon that is slowly coming up to its place. "The cursed book," she whispered. "Why the hell is this here? How could this book follow me in my dream?" "Am I draping or is this..."
