Kael gently took my hand. “The children will be back soon.” My heart skipped a beat. Children? As if answering the question, laughter echoed from outside. I looked through the window. Two little wolves chased each other across the garden. A little girl with my silver eyes. A little boy with Kael’s smile. They laughed as they ran toward the house. “Mama!” The little girl waved excitedly. “We caught butterflies!” The little boy grinned. “Dad said we could build a treehouse!” Tears filled my eyes before I could stop them.

Evy didn't want to pry into something she shouldn't be and had left him to think it through. But then she saw a bird arrive, one with lighter feathers than Stix. It stops directly at Owen. Giving his wrist, the bird landed neatly. He inspected his feet and was even heartbroken over the letter that had come with it. Putting it back, he released the bird again but not before he fed it a small rodent. Owen went back inside the mansion. Evy wondered what he could be upset about. Could be news about his family or debts he was trying to pay up. Could be a lot of things.

His eyes widened. My wolf rolled his eyes. Oh come on. Really? This idiot didn’t know that Willow is completely infatuated with him. “Grow the fuck up. This isn’t high school.” I growled. I don’t have time for this childish bullshit. “She may love you, but she is my mate.” Owen seemed to shake the shock of hearing what is so blatantly obvious to everyone but him away. After taking a deep breath and glancing around my room one last time, I made my way downstairs, ready to leave. The drive to Oak Mountain School was peaceful, and once we arrived, my mother and I exchanged goodbyes before she departed. As I entered the large building, I was greeted by a friendly young man named Lewis, who offered to show me to my room. "Here’s your room, Olivia. Your roommate has already settled in, but I have a feeling she’s a nice girl. She can help you with anything you need, or you can always come to me." Lewis said with a warm smile as he handed me the keys to my dorm.

I let out a scream, sitting up and swatting it away from me. It screeched, annoyed, a the bathroom door flew opened, Quill stepping out. "What-" he said as he raised his arm. The owl screeched before landing on his farearm, a parhcment rolled up and tied to the creature. I hated owls. I stumbled to the other side of the bedroom as Quill grabbed the little scroll, frowning.

A pair of large, round eyes are looking at them. He sighs and raises his arm. Instantly, a small, brown owl flies towards him and settles on his arm. The owl hoots happily, curious about the two people in the cave. “He just wants to be friends with you,” Lavi says. “He? Who?” Anna asks. As if answering her question, the owl lands on her lap. Anna touches its fluffy feathers and she smiles as the owl affectionately hoots at her. “An owl?” She exclaims, smiling widely like a child. “Is he cute?”

Then, clear as glass, a voice whispered: “The pact is not finished.” Olivia’s blood froze. She spun in the chair. The room was empty. The curtains swayed slightly, though the windows were shut. Her throat tightened. “Mom?” she said in a broken voice. No answer came. Only the thunder rolling over the house. Later that night, Olivia sat on her bed with the book still in her lap. Sleep would not come. She kept reading the entries, forcing herself to understand what she was holding.
