THE LONG parade had driven them to the side of the small playground. The place seemed abandoned. Unlike the gates, we passed earlier where the steel was shiny, and the houses look cut-out from a magazine, this part looks more lived-in. The street is narrower, and the houses seem smaller but I still think it’s charming in its own way. But despite that, the trees and plants around are lush and cared for. Pietro watched Jared and Lorenzo sprint towards the playground, their laughter echoing in the warm afternoon air.
