She grasped her chest, as if she could actually keep the fragments of her shattering heart intact. Laughter resounded around her, harsh and derisive. For the first time ever, she genuinely grasped the meaning of being powerless.

DANIEL'S POV I still don’t understand why my powers aren’t working like they used to. It’s like something inside of me broke. Something deep, something important. I’ve tried to ignore it, tried to fight through it, but it’s impossible not to feel it. The energy I once had— the supernatural strength, the ability to control things most people can’t even dream of— it's fading. Slipping from my fingers like sand, no matter how tightly I try to hold on.

“It was dark, from what I heard, ma’am. The person who drugged you… they turned off the power.” I frowned. “But how is that possible?” My voice was sharper now, edged with confusion. “They’d have to know this place inside out to even figure out where the breaker is.” Lucy paused at the door, hand gripping the frame, then looked over her shoulder. “Don’t stress yourself too much, ma’am. I’m sure Mr. Blackwood is sorting everything out with your father.”

Without me being their ATM anymore and with Sarah turning a blind eye, David wouldn't be able to come up with the money to pay me back, and the court would seize his property. Peter and Lucy finally realized the gravity of the situation and came to my workplace, crying and making a scene.

She walks a step closer, “I didn't do this!” I turn my back against her and pour myself another shot and take it in a single gulp. “Those promises were made by a fucking idiot to a cheap slut. Now, see yourself out of my property.” The eerily quiet room is filled with her silent sobs. I can feel her eyes burning a hole in my back but I'm too numb to feel a thing. I could feel her retreating from me. My heart aches for her to stay but my head is in charge right now.“Tell Sophia she is fired for letting you in”.

Well… not literally. But power inside LW Publishers had always leaned more toward me than toward anyone else. Even Laney Wayne himself, that's my boss, understood that. I managed deals, approved contracts, organized schedules, and controlled most of the people who came in and out of his office. There were times employees spoke to me more carefully than they spoke to him. And maybe that was the problem. Power became addictive after a while. It wrapped itself around you so tightly that eventually nobody could touch you anymore. Nobody could make you nervous. Nobody could make you feel vulnerable.

No one heard the man feared by the entire underworld. No one saw the Mafia King curled up on the cold marble floor, crying like the abandoned boy he had once been. Behind closed doors, titles meant nothing. Power meant nothing. Money meant nothing. Because in the end.... I was just a man whose heart had finally broken after years of refusing to admit it could.

He was too weak to stop me then, and he’s certainly too weak to stop me now. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you belong with them. The world only ever remembers the powerful, and I made you powerful by breaking you. Without me, you’re nothing more than a lost little girl, clinging to scraps of memory and false promises.”
