“Silas, the marks of hurt never fade. When you refused to save Yael, when you accused and berated him without listening, it was already over. You made sure there wasn’t enough time for us.” One by one, I pried his fingers off my arm. With each finger released, it felt like I was untangling the last of what had once bound us together. “Stop holding on, Silas. You married me out of obligation, and I’ve let you go. Let’s part ways peacefully.” When the last of his fingers slipped free, he collapsed onto the couch, his hands limp at his sides. He buried his face in his hands, his voice breaking as he muttered over and over, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

I mumbled, and he frowned. “Why are you thanking me?” “For caring enough to be here,” I replied. I wanted to add that he was supposed to be on a trip, right? I wanted to ask why he was here instead of there, but I didn’t. A selfish part of me was happy to see him. Glad that he was here. Something strange flickered in Nathan’s eyes, and I watched his frown deepen. He was withdrawing from me, too. “I should have known Liam needed more restraint,” he breathed, an air of regret and anger etching his tone, and then he merely glanced at me. “I’m sorry I didn’t keep my promise.”

My hands went cold. “You’re sorry?” My voice was sharp, louder than I expected. Heads turned for a second, but I didn’t care. “Yes,” he said, nodding quickly. “I can’t change it, I can’t undo any of it, but… I regret it. I regret not stopping them. I regret not speaking up when I should have. I regret being weak.” I stared at him, heat rising in my chest. “Weak? That’s your excuse? That you were weak?”

He spoke with a deep sense of regret and sadness in his voice. “I am truly sorry,” he said, his words carrying the weight of his remorse. “I failed to consider your perspective, and I deeply regret that.”

Since he dared to shout at the president, it appeared that he did not know how cruel the president could be when it came to vengeance and retribution. The president could bear grudges for his entire life. Jay strode out elegantly, his hands hugging both his arms. He looked at James maliciously. “You’re recovering well. Being half-paralyzed is always better than being fully paralyzed.” Storm almost burst out into laughter. He knew that the president was very vengeful. James could recover normally like any other person, but since the president had given his orders, he had no choice but to cripple him. James was so angry that he even stuttered, “Who’s… crippled. But I don’t regret us.” He didn’t look away. “And I don’t regret her,” I added, glancing down at Amara. “That would have been a problem,” he said lightly. I smiled. “A big one.” He let out a quiet breath, then stepped even closer, his shoulder brushing lightly against mine as he looked down at her.

The meeting had already begun and that caused people to stare at him. Kate breathed out, “You’re late, Mr Lucas,” She question, her glare piercing into Lucas’s skin. “I’m sorry. I had some important business to take care of..” He simply apologize and took his seat. “If everyone had an important business to take care of, no one would be attending the meeting today.” Kate mentioned. “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.” Lucas mumbled. “I pray it doesn’t, Mr Lucas. I do not condone lateness..I value my time so well,” Kate snapped.
