A primal fear gnawed at me – the fear of closing my eyes and waking up to a world devoid of Axella. With a jolt, I threw the covers aside and paced the room. A whirlwind of thoughts swirled through my head, each one leading back to her. I stripped off my clothes and sank into a steaming bath, hoping the warm water would soothe my churning emotions. Scrubbing myself relentlessly, I pretended that the action could somehow cleanse the anxiety and insecurity that clawed at me.

And finally, when my wife was taken from me again, tortured, and I witnessed her death, feeling it across continents.

“Integration absolute. Fear accounted for. Emotional micro-errors neutralized.” Ian’s grin, now steady, was triumphant. “We’ve mastered the city, the web, the storms—but fear? Fear is human. And we’ve mastered it too.” --- The final trial came in the heart of the city’s central tower, an abandoned skyscraper lined with mirrors, shattered glass, and pulsing lights. At its center, a projection of ourselves, distorted and fragmented, awaited—an embodiment of fear, doubt, and uncertainty. Each reflection moved slightly out of sync, each shadow suggested hesitation, each flicker implied betrayal.

Tuesday, April 19, 2022 5: 10 p.m. I’m on my counter, receiving orders again, and looking here and there, if he is here or not. I’m too afraid of him. David had felt fear before. He had studied it, manipulated it, made it his weapon. He had seen it in countless eyes—victims, test subjects, even his own colleagues when they realized what he was truly capable of. But this? This was different. A moment ago, she had been trembling. The fear had been thick, suffocating. It had been delicious. But now— Now, the woman standing before him was nothing like the fragile thing he had expected. Her eyes burned with something primal. You can’t bottle up your emotions and not expect something to go wrong. For all the calm I can summon there is a side of me that hungers for the hunt. Yearns to see the fear in my prey’s eyes; a primal part of me that lurks deep in the darkest recesses of my mind thirsting for blood, and Davina here just woke that beast. A beast I am more than willing to let come out and play. “Who were you calling yours?” I ask in a low threatening voice wrapped in a growl. Her head is bowed in submission, her body shaking uncontrollably with fear as sweat is clinging to her brow. The scent of her fear is tickling my nose and egging me on.

The desire was a physical heat behind my eyes. “You want this body?” My voice was a low, dangerous purr. I rolled my shoulders, a feral grin touching my lips. The fear was still there, a cold knot in my gut, but it was being drowned out by something hotter. Something manic. “Come and try to take it.” I didn’t know if I could win. My Primal Force was a locked door. I had one Artifact charge left and a body already littered with shallow, stinging cuts. But waiting to die wasn’t in my programming.

“My mind is playing tricks due to the fasting. It’s nothing but a trick of the shadows, right?” He turned back to the vault, but a heavy, freezing palm pressed directly against the center of his spine, sending a massive shockwave of primal terror straight down his nervous system. Bryce spun on his heel, his claws extending as he slashed at the air, but there was absolutely no one there. “Who is running an execution game in this house? Show your face!” his voice trembled, his scent turning completely putrid with fear.

Kade’s POV The facility shook again, harder this time. Red emergency lights strobed across the hallway like blood pulsing through veins. Unit Prime’s grip on my throat loosened for a split second as it tilted its head, listening to something only it could hear. “Forsaken protocol, unauthorized.” I drove my knee into its gut and shoved it back. “Sounds like your masters are eating each other. How does that feel, you lab-grown freak?” Prime smiled, black blood dripping from its mouth. “It feels efficient. One problem takes the other one away.”
