The Promise Love Novels & Stories

Shining with an emotion I couldn’t name. Then he reached for my hand. Pressed a kiss against my knuckles. And finally said, “I promise.” I wanted to believe him. God help me, I wanted to. But something deep inside me whispered that promises were only as strong as the people making them. And for the first time in seven years… I wasn’t sure Damian believed his own. Hours later, Elena and Noah slept peacefully. But Damian remained awake. Sitting alone in the darkness. His phone illuminated his face. A single message glowed on the screen.

I had no dreams of climbing ladders or becoming someone important—just a desire for a quiet, content life. I'd followed Ted to Eldonfield because he was building his career here. I had been convinced that if I stayed by his side long enough, he'd eventually see me. But love, it turned out, couldn't be forced through sheer persistence. On my way to the hotel, a curbside bookstore was blasting lyrics that struck a chord. "I don't care what they say, I'm in love with you. They try to pull me away, but they don't know the truth. My heart's crippled by the vein, and I can't stop crying..."

He took the last sip from his glass. "Don't get your hopes up, servant. You'll only be my fake fiancée through a legally binding contract you'll sign as part of the deal," he stated with a firm and persuasive tone, his eyes searching hers intently. "As a reward, every now and then, I'll offer you a generous sum of money that you can use as you see fit."

With a perfectly calm voice, I said, "I came to pick up the charm bracelet. Do you know where Rachel put it?" Todd let out an exaggerated gasp of surprise. Then, he shifted his foot, revealing the thing wrapped around his ankle. A delicate charm engraved with the words "luck" and "joy" hung from a red cord, exactly as Rachel had promised me. "You mean this? Rachel let me have it after I told her I liked it. Doesn't it look nice?" Todd wore a smug smile. For a second, I nearly lost my mind. My daughter was gone, and my wife didn't love me.

Just by his loud voice, I could tell that this could turn into another argument—and that was the last thing we needed this week. “Promise me you won’t be mad, no matter what it is—you won’t get angry and you will listen to me.” Christian’s sigh was enough for me to realize that he was not in the mood for any of this. “Serena, what is it?” “You have to promise me,” I spoke again and looked at Luis who was slowly beginning to wake up. “Serena?” Luis yawned as he sat up and stretched himself out. “Fine, I promise—now tell me, what is it?” Christian spoke in a hurry. “I can’t tell you over the phone, you need to get here right now.”

He muttered. Her eyes turned glassy and she blinked, pushing the tears back, she couldn't ruin her makeup for any reason. "Liam Jordans. Wait this isn’t how I planned this! My dad stood up and came around to hug me. My mum joined in too. “Sweetheart, is that what you had in that head of yours the whole time?” My mum looked like she was tearing up too. Hey at least I think this is working. “But I assure you i witnessed your potential fiancé grow up and he is nothing like that! In fact his father, your dads business partner, said so himself that he will cut his son’s hands off if he dares mistreat you! The one you will marry agreed himself that he will agree to any terms you have! So please my sweet daughter give this a chance” I blew it. My hope flew out of the window. I scooted closer to my dad though. “Your mother is right,

She gripped my hand tightly. “My dear Laura, I promised your mother that I would keep you safe. I promised your father that no harm would come to you… There are some things I can never tell you… the promises I made both of them prohibit it.” She sighed deeply before a painful expression came over her. “I will understand if you hate me, hate the fact that I never told you a lot of things but please understand… the bond I have with your mother, even today is so strong. The love I have for her… is immense.”

He shook his head, scooting closer to her. “Please promise me you’ll understand,” She sniffed and looked away. “I will understand you the same way you’ve understood me,” He placed his hand on top of hers. “Kai…” She licked her lips, tears rolling down her cheeks.
