"End of the road," Finn agrees, solemn, like he's repeating wedding vows.
Tori's already walking to his truck.
"You drive the speed limit, don't you."
"...Yes?"
"We'll work on it."
They pull out, and somewhere across town my father just felt a chill and doesn't know why.
"Walk me through the ground," I ask Reena.
"That's the thing."
She turns a slow circle.
"Her trail comes up the road from the diner, clear as day. Then it ends where she dropped, and there's nothing else. No animal in, no animal out, no footprints of any kind."
