All night, Ethan sat there, staring blankly at the Bond-Breaking Agreement. We'd been mates for eight years and hardly ever fought. I'd always been gentle and obedient, putting his wishes above everything else. I also poured all my heart and soul into raising our pups. It had never occurred to him that someone as soft and compliant as me would just leave behind a Bond-Breaking Agreement and leave. Ethan sat on the couch, desperately trying to figure out where things had gone wrong. But for some reason, ever since learning that I'd left, his mind felt muddled. He couldn't think of anything at all.

He just keeps moving forward. Then he sees it ahead. A glimmer through the trees, faint, yellow, moving. Those are headlights. His heart slams against his ribs in realization and a loud gasp escapes his lips. A road! There’s a goddamn road ahead! For the first time in months, hope floods him so fast it makes him dizzy. His knees buckle, but he doesn’t let them. He stumbles out of the treeline, thorns ripping his skin, branches tearing at his clothes. The dirt gives way to asphalt, cold in the dewy night.

What do I do? Which way do I go? Here I stand on the edge of two roads, I don't have a clue in hell about which way to go, and I know me and Rome’s whole entire future rests on this decision. I look down the road that I just followed that goes to the house of trauma and then down the road to the left. I’m going this way because that car came from somewhere. I continue to keep walking but I keep falling down as shurbs tear through my palms as sunlight turns to darkness and I can’t see where I’m going.

The moment they stepped onto the black road, a solid, steady sensation rose from beneath their feet, completely different from the rugged forest paths. The road was clean and orderly, lined with tall roadside trees. Their branches stretched wide as morning light filtered through the gaps, casting scattered patterns of light and shadow across the pavement, beautiful like a painting. Her voice was calm as she looked at Carl. "It's completely shut down. I can't even see the time. We can only try our luck here and see if we can wait for a car to give us a ride."

He still had no right playing with her life like that. She should have remembered that it was hard to get to the cottage. “It’s no problem at all,” Hunter said quickly. “Gabe can have you there within a few minutes once the road ends.” “He’s right,” Gabriel said with a small shrug. ‘She really isn’t far from where the road ends, we are also using the term road very loosely. We will be off roading it for several miles.” “Is that what you call just driving aimlessly through trees,” Samuel asked with a chuckle. “It’s not aimlessly,” Hunter said. “I know exactly where I am going.”

I need to get to her. My chest thrusts forward, and my breath comes in pants. The force inside me grows larger, pushing out, shoving against my rib cage. It propels me forward. To keep going and get to her before it's too late. I veer off the road, onto the muddy path leading uphill, then that, too, fades. I keep going, through the mud and faded grass, onto the flat plateau that soars up to a cliff.

Gwen sat beside Eddie and kept looking at his handsome face. Eddie could be seen walking on a lonely road. The lonely road is an isolated street. It seems no one has ever stepped foot there. No single sign of a car. There’s no sign of activity there. No noise or shadows. Eddie felt he was walking through a ghost town. Eddie could feel fear and anxiety in all his body, thinking if there could be somebody by his side but no one was there. He kept walking and the road seemed endless. "Hello!, Anybody here". He called out, only to be greeted by the response of his echo.

Said the imaginary Samuel again, smiling at me, like the one I always remember. The path coming to a clearing, and soon I can see the one-way road of asphalt concrete. Unsure of which way to go, I blindly turned to which I care less, whether left or right. If it is a dead-end, turn to the other side, I make up my mind that way. At least the sky is still clear, I comforted myself. I pressed on the accelerator, maintaining the fourth gear. The further I go, the chances of finding refuge are much more promising to me just when I got on a proper road of the two-way lane. A worn-down road signboard pointing to a nearby town enlightened me a little.

But following the GPS directions to the Hammond farm, even coming from a place as small as the college community around St. Mary’s, I feel like I’m navigating every rat run and Bob’s Road in the county. In the stretch of about a mile, I’m certain I’ve passed the entirety of the town. The endless acres of snow-dusted fields along either side of this graveled road I’m driving are starting to make me worried I’ve missed it when suddenly a building drifts out of the gloom up ahead and to my left.
