The Secret She Keeps Novels & Stories

"But?" Nathaniel held her gaze firmly. "It's a bit inconvenient. Your ability is more useful if it's kept a secret." Katherine's stomach turned. Keeping it a secret? Again? Her hands fell down weakly. The man before her suddenly had brown hair and murky brown eyes. With a finger on his smiling lips, he said: "It's our little secret, Kitty. Don't talk about it." "No", she whispered and backed away. "No, not again! I won't keep it a secret again!"

One look at her and you'd know that she wasn't someone to mess with. "They have to wait a little longer, though," she added in a teasing tone. "For now, I will enjoy the 'play ground' that I created and play with their lives first. And when the time has come to reveal myself, I'll make sure all of them will feel my wrath." She let out a long sigh and reached for a small remote control. She pressed a button, and a secret door hidden behind two large bookshelves automatically opened. Still holding a glass of red wine, she slowly entered the secret room that was specifically made according to her request.

And then, just as suddenly, she yanked away, breathing hard. Her eyes blazed with anger. “You—” I smirked. “What? Surprised? You did the same thing to me remember? Or do you need me to continue jogging your memory?” Her lips parted, but no words came out. I leaned down again, whispering the next part in a slow, deliberate voice. “You keep my secret,” I said smoothly, “and I’ll keep yours. But it's not a gamble anyway, I'm actually ordering you.” Her brows furrowed. “I don’t have a secret.”

She picked up her scarf and walked out of the house. She decided she would just hide in the car and scare him. It will be fun... With that intention, she walked to the elevator, knowing it would take a few minutes for him to reach downstairs to the parking lot. Aarvi opened his car with the help of an extra key and hid in the back seat. Soon Anshuman reached his car and opened the door of it. He did not notice Aarvi’s presence there. Aarvi was about to scare him when his phone went off as he picked up the call.

He said to her and her heart missed a beat at the thought. “I can only do the little I can, so whatever secret you know you have, …” He said. “I don’t have any secrets.” She snapped at him and he could say no more.

Nico had no right to decide what I wore, where I went, or which man looked at me. “I’ll wear it,” I said. Shelly smiled triumphantly. “I knew there was a dangerous woman hiding beneath those office sweaters.” While I changed, she searched through my jewellery. I was applying mascara when she opened the wardrobe drawer containing the black Contini box. “What’s this?” I moved faster than I intended and closed the drawer beneath her hand. “Nothing.” Shelly looked at me through the mirror. Curiosity appeared on her face, but she must have noticed the panic in mine because she stepped back.

"Sophia. Lily. I need you to know that wasn't me." She didn't look at me. "You're the only other person who knows. Besides Marlon and Parkville, who've kept this secret for years without a single leak, and who have far more reason to protect me than you do." "I know how it looks." "It doesn't look like anything yet," she said. "It is just a fact. My secret stayed safe for four years, but everything broke down the moment you arrived. I am not accusing you, but I am not ruling you out either." Her voice was even and cold. It was the voice she used when she kept her emotions hidden.

Halva Renn gave me nothing. She nodded. Wrote it down. Said she would prepare. Told me to rest. Then she gathered her things and left just as she had countless times before. An old physician. A keeper of secrets for thirty years. Carrying one more. I remained alone in the east drawing room after the door shut behind her. I still didn’t know what she was. But I had given the truth a form only she could carry. Now, I would wait to see if it walked.

She gives me an exaggerated look of offense. "Rowan." "What?" "Even if you hadn't asked..." She reaches over and squeezes my hand. "...I was already planning on being there." Relief washes over me. "I figured." "You're terrible at keeping secrets." I bark out a laugh. "That's the joke you're going with?" She nods proudly. "I thought it was funny." "Our entire lives are built around keeping secrets." "Exactly." "So I'm actually very good at it." She shrugs. "Agree to disagree."
