An Alpha growl. “Adrian,” I hiss, then ignore him as Nyx pushes further in the dark passage. Suddenly, Nyx stops moving. My gaze drops and I see it. A shadow clinging to Cassie's leg, stretching long and twisted. ‘What’s that?’ I snap at Nyx. ‘Rogue's shade,’ he growls at the same time as Adrian. I can tell he already knows what that shadow is too. The shadow turns slowly towards us and busses when it sees us. Its claws scrape against the floor, then it vanishes into the air.

"You saved her life, huh?" I repeated, my chuckle disrupting the heaviness of the atmosphere. I walked up to Jerry and looked down at him. "Did you really get that scar from a fire, Jerry?" His eyes flickered, but he stubbornly shouted, "Of course! How else could I have gotten it?" "Is that so?" I drawled. "Why do I recall you falling off a tree when you tried to steal mangoes from the neighbor's garden when you were ten years old? A branch had cut you on the way down, didn't it?"

The plan worked, and in a gritty rooftop showdown, Alex finally came face-to-face with their relentless pursuer. The Shadow emerged from the darkness, their features hidden beneath a mask, their eyes burning with a deadly determination. That’s another private joke between them because Shadow likes Marvel movies (his fave superhero is Thor) while Nate is a die-hard Batman fan. “I can’t help being dark,” Nate blurts out, “cause there’s literally a blackout!” They both fall quiet, get into an impromptu staring contest, and then burst out laughing. They laugh so long and hard that Nate finally grips his stomach in pain. But it’s a good kind of hurt. This is like old times with hyung.

The first two shadows would attack me together and I would jump around kicking one in the chest. I would flip over and punch the next, and he would go down like a sack of potatoes. The third and fourth shadows who were waiting on the sidelines would come screaming. I would get them in my hold and hit their heads together. And seeing all his comrades down, the fifth one will turn tail and run for the hills while I stand victorious, dusting my hands. That was how it always went about in movies. Well, the shadow creatures didn’t seem to have gotten the memo yet. Maybe they didn’t get

We always mask up when we go, too,” Shadow added. “And Tempie wigs it, so we’d be hard to identify. You want to play?” He gestured to the game. They had, Raven decided, reached the end of Shadow’s knowledge on the subject of Gregory Holmsworth. “Nah,” Raven wanted to watch Shadow. “You play, I’ll watch.” “Okay.” Shadow was animated as he played the game, and for five minutes, Raven could look at him blatantly feeding that hunger, without having to meet the other man’s eyes and justify it, until Shadow cursed as he missed someone and was shot.
